Rip off low mileage Crossfires
Rip off low mileage Crossfires
Just found another RIP OFF dealer trying to sell a Crossfire with conflicting mileage. How can the Tripometer have more miles then the odometer. Check out the pics and look at the speedometer photo. 48.7 mi on the tripometer and 46 miles on the odometer. Looks like a rip off to me. Take real caution buying those low mileage Crossfires. Check out the car.

Re: Rip off low mileage Crossfires
ALL TIRES FILLED WITH
PURIGEN NITROGEN 98
PURIGEN NITROGEN 98
ALL VEHICLES ARE PROTECTED WITH A FRESH COAT OF SIMONIZE
OUR DEALER FEE IS ONLY $399
Roll back the odo and charge $399 for a coat of cheap sealant? I'd stay very, very far away from that place.
Something else must be going on here though. How can several places be so dumb as to not reset the trip after rolling back the odo? Doesn't seem right.

Re: Rip off low mileage Crossfires
I don't how to explain that. But here's another example. When I got my Last SRT-4 it came off the truck with 0 miles. The odometer said 0000000, but the trip odometer said .8 miles. So the trip was higher than the odometer until it rolled over to one mile. That's probably what happen here. True story. I think the car is ok.
The other thing is modern cars with digital odometers cannot be reset or rolled back. The mileage is stored in a minimum of 4 places in the electrical system. The ECU, ABS, BCM, and gauge cluster all store it. There is also supposed to be another unknown place that it is stored that only the car itself knows. You would have to replace all four of these components and find the secret hiding place in the electrical system in order to roll back the mileage. So, basically it's impossible unless the car was in a flood and had all that redone...

Odometer is reset to zero miles prior to installation but the trip meter does not reset.
I doubt any hanky panky; I saw several brand new XF's like that 2 years ago when I was looking at new Crossfire’s.
If you are in doubt, measure the tires, they won't lie. If there is any significant mileage on the car, the tires and brakes will show wear and tear (plus other signs) otherwise, what’s the use of setting the odometer back 2 miles (or thousands) putting on new tires and brakes (well over $1K) and not show wear on the rims, seats, interior, seat belts etc...
I doubt foul play or else the other signs will be real obvious... You could set back 200K to 100K and get maybe away with it.

Re: Rip off low mileage Crossfires
When I got my SRT-4, it was a similar situation, and I know the car wasn't messed with at all. I had ordered and tracked the build status daily. When it shipped, my friend's father who works for Allied tracked it and unloaded it from the train. When I first got there was a 1.5 discrepancy.
I had attributed it to testing of the cluster. Although it could be if they took it off the line, and reset it in the factory, who knows, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Rip off low mileage Crossfires
I don't know if the crossfire is manufactured this way but the medical equipment I work with is made with the sample counter at -999800. Now when we install and test a new system, we must run so many water tests and actual samples to insure the integrity of the instrument. This places the counter very close to 000000 when we are done. Is it possible that the odometers are set under 0 miles to count for testing and such? Just a thought.
