Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
Many years ago there could be a case made for dry seals/gaskets...but certainly nothing like that in the last 15-20 years. The new breed of rubber seals seem to last just about forever as compared to cork, or the old style "rope" seals.
Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
I bought my SRT6 Coupe on April 6th 2007 and I am the first registered owner. My three year warranty started on 4/6/2007. I don’t know where this vehicle was stored for 2 ½ years but the build date was 9/04. I got a good deal on the car and only had to take a train for 250 miles to get to the dealership to pick it up. The car was immaculately clean and had 141 miles on it. The only thing needing immediate replacement was the windshield wiper blades. I now have 1,600 miles on the car and it seems to running just fine. I do get a little brake pull to the left when I first apply the brakes when the car is cold and will have that looked at the dealership soon. Unfortunately my local Chrysler dealership is not a five star one and they have never even seen a Crossfire (I live in a very small town in Oregon) so I will have to drive to wherever I can find a certified Crossfire mechanic.

Also check out any local credit unions. I just got 6 years @ 5.74% - New or used.
Looks like they just went up to 5.99% - Still not bad My Local Credit Union Rate Page

Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
The only gasket/O-ring problem that I can recall is a failure of an O-ring in the transmission. This one seems to occur fairly early in the life of the Crossfire (this problem crops up more with the SRT-8 cars).
The only engine type failures are with the supercharger IC pump or clutch, no gaskets involved at all.
Far more likely to fail is something electrical/electronic. This has been the bane of Mercedes for the last 5 years or so and can appear at any mileage. In this case you would be better off with the longer warranty coverage offered by a new car.
Spend the extra money and get a new one. You get the longer warranty, you know it hasn't been abused, and you won't have any worries on how the car was broken in.

OK, lets say you call your local Chrysler dealer and tell them your going away for two or three years. Tell them your going to prison if they ask. Then ask them how you should store your car. I wonder if they would say "just park it in a field or on a dock and not worry about it"? I bet you would hear some concerns over your cylinder walls, bearings, and every other part that is designed to have oil on it occasionally. And that's not even mentioning the electronics. What about the mold growing in the doors, seats and under the carpet. Then there's the tires. Are they putting new tires on these cars. How can they not!
WOW,I think this is turning into a Stephen King novel
I had to park a new 2001 Cobra Mustang for six months when I got sick. The car was never the same again, and it was parked in a garage. There are ways a car can be stored and brought back to life without damage. Do you think that Chrysler did any of those things?
Well I have to go now. Parades need raining on and I think I saw someone enjoying themselves, THE BAST*RDS!

Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
My co-worker and I drove about 300 miles this weekend, and we each have an SRT now.
Mine is a Coupe, Graphite, Nav, etc - had 18miles when I got it.
His is a Roadster, Sapphire Silver Blue, Nav, etc - 12,000 miles.
I noticed a little bit of the supercharger clutch slip on his - haven't noticed it on mine yet.
Needless to say, we both got awesome cars at fractions of the MSRP, with full warranties to boot!
Pictures to follow.

Get your SRT6 while they are still out & before the price starts going back up. (IMHO).

Well, both you and your coworker screwed up because you didn't get Aero Blues. The horror!
I agree that their prices will start climbing due to dwindling inventory. I'm surprised the current prices have lasted as long as they have. 3,000 cars built for worldwide sales and three years later they still haven't sold out. Something is very wrong - and it's not the car.

Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
While I’d love to believe the price will climb, I don’t expect it.
While they are rare, and I’m glad to have purchased one, the fact that I was able to secure an unsold model almost 3 years after date of production shows how low the demand is. True the asking price was much, much higher, but the number of cars and time that dealers have had them, as well as the price at which Chrysler sold these indicates that the market price is very low.
I’m not sure what market forces could change the demand for these cars, but given the limited supply if there was a change in demand prices have the potential to rise, I’m very doubtful that this will occur however. Congrats and Enjoy.

Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
Dealers are funny. I saw a SRT-6 on the net with 14 miles on the odometer but had 113 miles on the tripometer at a CERTIFIED Chrysler dealer? How can this be? I called and they avoided the question. Then I saw another one with the same mileage issue. MORE MILES ON THE TRIPOMETER THEN THE ODOMETER? Think about it? I was amazed that in this day and age that dealers will try to rip off good people. The mileage on these so called NEW cars seems low to me. How can a car from Germany have only 10, 15, 25 miles on it when they went through delivery and auction? I just bought my black SRT-6 Roadster privately with 4,000 and all the paper work. The car is perfect in every way. My local dealer has certified Crossfire and Viper mechanics who ONLY work on these vehicles. They checked out every inch of the car and the car is GREAT. Good luck and BEWARE of the LOW mileage Crossfires.
Re: Dealer told me not to buy 'new' SRT - any truth?
I've had a few times where our cars were advertised with lower miles than what were actually on the car. But usually this was because we drove the cars from the sale instead of putting them on a truck, or possibly test drives from customers or our service department. Our system loads the info that comes from the time of sale at the auction when the cars are purchased. My fathers car had 11 miles on it and I've probably sold 10 Crossfires with miles in single digits at delivery, so they are out there. But I'm not sure about miles being rolled back.
