Default Went for a spin in a NON SRT XFire...

Courtesy of Gary aka Valkryderguy. He has a very clean '04 and lives just a few miles away. I took him for a ride in the SRT first and then he returned the favor. We then popped hoods and compared the differences which are few...other than the blower of course. He even showed me how our hoods can go all the way to a 90 degree angle!

I must say the regular 215 hp xfire are nice. They definitely have good power. The suspension felt about the same even though I have heard the SRT has a stiffer suspension.

Overall there both kick *** cars!

That 90 degree hood thing is pretty sweet huh...

Funny how many people discovered that feature last Saturday...myself included!

Sorry Woodward gang, I met a new member,
"Chi-Town SRT/6" tonight and I told him about the 90 degree hood thing. I guess what happens at Woodward doesn't stay at Woodward. He has a very nice SRT6 and I was very impressed with the ride. He's a decent guy and lives nearby. We plan to get together again.

No apologies necessary...The more people that know about their Crossfires the better to spread the word. IMO the 90 degree hood is a great idea that more cars should have!

Now if I could only figure out what that "quarter" thing was all about...

There's a button near the top of the strut that holds up the hood...push it and the hood opens up to 90 degrees!

The button near the bottom of the same piece allows it to go back down to the regular open position.

Learn something new everyday on here! That's a good one too. I looked in the manual and there is no mention of that feature. I wonder what other unpublished "tricks" these things can do...

Gotta Love this forum.

Now, what's "The Quarter Thing"?

Thanks apkano, I'll have to try that out - should make cleaning the cowl bits a little easier!

I don't know...maybe we should start a thread titled "90 degree hood opening".

I think this is a good idea. Having it on the title will get more hits, and thus letting more members know about this feature most of us did not know how to operate.

That hood thing is really neat. I went outside to try it out, and that really shows off the whole front. I had to get my co-worker outside too, to show him. I think he's tired of me showing him every thing i find out about the x-fire.

funny

All (I think) MB's have had this feature since the early 70's -
Pretty funny, when you go in the service bay, seeing all these wide mouth bass lookin' cars being serviced...
Up until about '72 (and I may be off by a year or two) the hoods opened from the windshield, like all good europeans,
and they were despised by every owner and mechanic alike
... so they built this new feature in models in the 70's for better access...those hefty MB grills needed it too...

Another little trick thats not in the owners manual is about the key fob and its been talked about before awhile ago on this forum so this more for the newer members. When you push the unlock button on the key fob you push it once for drivers side door to unlock and twice for passenger side door to unlock. Now take the fob and push the unlock and lock buttons at the same time and hold down til the red light at front of the fob blinks twice. Now when you push the unlock button both doors unlock with one push. To go back to the default setting simply push both buttons again til the red light blinks twice and the doors open separately again.
