Accurate? I was accurate. Take a look at the upper portion of the dash...cheapo plastic. Of course there are some parts that are real metal and real leather, but for me, I cannot overlook such cheapness in a $78,495 car.

I did look at them, I traded my XLR in for a 300C course they through in a Crossfire! The entire door is leather along with the console lid and console on the XLR. They are put together very very good. I like the Crossfire and have put 8,000 miles on it in 3 months and I think its a great car for 19K-27K. Not 35K-40K. That's why at the reduced numbers they are selling. I must not be the only one to think this.

You know, I really don't want this tangent to go on and on, but this is my last point to be made on the XLR...If it's interior is so high quality, then why is it that every car magazine I read call it's interior not worthy of it's price tag? Oh well. It sounds like a strong statement, and it really is (sorry for that), but let's not get to worked up on this issue.

Not true.

The autostick feature in the SRT-6 is basically worthless.
Not true again...I use my autostick everyday, you must not really "drive" your car for what it is.

Actually it is true in 99% of the cases that a stick will be faster than an auto in the hands of a good driver. The only examples that I can think of that this is not true on are exotics (e.g. Ferrari) and the new 997 Turbo Porsche.

Things to remember with a stick are that it suffers from less drive line loss and if you know how to drive it you have much more control and can get a better launch. Better being defined as a fast time.

well as much as I like an manual trans its really not practical to have one in stop and go traffic. I was under the impression a auto trans is faster because the gears are always engaged. when you shift a manual trans there is that millisecond of disengagement of the drive train. then to spend another $15-20,000 for the upgrade then void your warranty, does not sound like a really good ideal. but if that is what you want, I am sure it would be nice but if your going to spend $60,000.00 for a car I would get something else that is already a matched system, instead of trying to make something else work. just my thoughts, kevin

Ditto!! The current GTO is faster with the auto, everyone on that forum scratches there head also. The time came from GM.

I say BS. Prove it with hard numbers from a reputable source.

Considering that the automatic Corvette is slower than the Manual Corvette I would find it very hard to believe that the Auto GTO with the same engine & trans is faster than the manual.

You are mistaken. The automatic transmission has to shift. Not all gears are engaged all the time. You can make the argument that a CVT does not shift but that is splitting hairs.

don't think we'll be racing anytime soon seeing as were are quite a distance apart. anyhow, what engine do you got in your '78? i've been thinking about a 2nd gen t/a -- really wanting an early 2nd gen with a 455 or a later 2nd gen with a 400.

Just make sure you don't get one with the olds 403, it was called a 6.6 just like the 400. Most '79s had the olds 403.
I have a '69 Pontiac 428 in my '78. They only made them '67, '68 and '69. I've owned the '78 since '81 it was my first car!!

Hahaha...all that jp2005 has to turn up in is the ZX12, then all races are almost probably over. Unless of course the competition is another superbike or a car with serious focus to a drag strip.

true, but bikes are in a different category, and i don't know how many of you here have ever road a bike, at least a 1000cc (or bigger) crotch rocket, their scary as sh*t...

but as far as a stick in an srt6, if it was offered that's what i would own. so i think it would be pretty cool...as far as 20k, i would buy an '04 like mine, and use that 20k to put a nice twin turbo setup on the car.
