EJ, thanks a lot for clearing that up for me. I just took a tech out for a drive and of course it had been raining all day so air temps had dropped from usual 96 degrees to 76 during the test and the tech drive like he was in a VW. I gave him the print outs from this thread, to his credit he said he would read them tonight and call Chrysler and see if they had documented this problem as he could not duplicate it. I almost exploded i the shop just before the test drive. The gate keeper of the shop that I have been having all my problems with knows nothing about this car, and to make things worse the tech said he refused to go in my car with me driving that he would not exceed speed limits to replicate this problem. The gatekeeper said you are driving this like it was a sports car! I wanted to hit him across the head with anything at that point. So, I will give the tech a chance to prove weather he has any integrity before I either get nasty or go to the only other dealership in the area.

Great work EJ, I really appreciate your efforts here, this is great info. I have however reached speeds between 130 & 150 mph many time over the past year, this incident is very recent and I would hope related to the SC IC pump and not TSBs, even though I do not know which ones have been done. I brought the car in May of '05 so I assume things were up to date, I do remember having the radiator fan done, but nothing more. I never had a problem with the car until about a month ago and I have driven the hell out of it on a daily basis. This car has run with NSXs, and other exotics, always holding a respectable position. Thanks again for all the help.

EJ, how do you or the Techs get these codes unless the car is running under the same conditions that cause the failure. In the situation they would have to have a portable diagnostic device in the car while driving, right??? Or is there a way for them to run simulations on the bench and replicate conditions?

To all, I took EJs advice and he was right. They diagnosed that it was the aux water pump by using the codes and it was the p1,027 I believe. Just so happens that Chrysler was releasing about 30 units to be shipped in the next few days. So apparently there is a problem.

Thanks for all the into, could not have done it without you.

This definitely sounds like it should be a TSB for all SRT6s (if not an actual recall, given the safety considerations).

I think a recall would be more appropriate. Too many SRT's are experiencing the same/identical problem.

Time to start a list.

What is the process for getting a recall going? Even though they have agreed to replace my aux. water pump I am still concerned with the next time it happens out of warranty. I want to understand what is the root cause of the failure of the pump. Perhaps the design is not what was needed for this IC.

My guess is driving without properly warming the engine. I got my crossfire in Late October and drove a few times in winter without warming up for long (late for work).

I experienced problems at around 6,000 miles.

The car did sit in the dealer lot for two years so I dont know how it was drivin the first 50 miles before I got it.

Perhaps in cold weather areas that may have some bearing but I think not, I live in Florida so getting the car warm is easy. Since this problem deals with the IC keeping the SC running cooler I do not think warming the engine has much to do with it. If there is coolant in the system to keep water from freezing then cold weather really makes this car run much better in my experience. Keep in mind these cars are designed and build in Germany, the weather there can be very cold, I lived there for seven years.

Thanks in no small part to all your efforts, if I had not had the details you provided they would not have finally thought I might be right. I also put a call into Chrysler to help light a fire under the dealer. But is was really so easy to diagnose, after they put in under the drivers dash with a little test equip. ran setup and a code came back, I believe it was a hex code once converted it was one of the codes you had listed above, and the Chrysler tech at corporate said if you get that code then it is the Aux Water Pump. So simple, all they had to do was get there wax out of there eyes. The bottom line here is they really do not know this car, and thats why they could not sell or market them right. Thanks again.

I am thinking about getting the Renntech pulley kit and ECU reprog., has anyone found a good sounding exhaust system for the SRT6 yet?

Hassle factor aside, I wonder if it would have been useful to make a videotape of the car experiencing the problem?

Even though the techs were no help - couldn't find the problem, and weren't willing to go fast and witness it themselves, maybe some video showing and hearing the problem might help?

They have not gotten the part in yet so I can attempt to do that if you think is would be useful? It may be hard to hear it, but I will see what I can do.

Ohhh, ej is going to jump on you (kidding).
Not really. It already has a ~ $1,400 exhaust system on it.

I love my SRT6, but I run with a number of Ferraris and Lotus, as well as NSX and I love the sound of a mid-engine tuned exhaust system. That is what I want my car to sound like, it may not ever be possible, but I need to know why, because this car with the Renntech kit, ECU mods and a few other minor things can deliver 400 HP easily competing with Ferrari, so why not sound like one. At least with that I will not feel so cheated without a six speed manual tran. as well as a positrac-rear end. Those wee options they never allowed use to weigh in on. But this is for another thread. I am sure EJ and others will forgive me. Cheap sound is not what I want.
