Default SRT Experience

Has anyone participated in any of the SRT Experiences offered by Chrysler? I am scheduled to participate in the one that is going to be held at Daytona on 12 - 14 May. Am interested in hearing what your Experience was like.

I went to one at Laguna Seca last year... It was a lot of fun. It's worth the money IMO. I'm pretty sure they'll have a different set of cars running the track.

See my post on it below.

I attended the one recently at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. All SRT vehicles are used although not in each event. There were four activities in addition to the classroom instruction and lunch: 1/8 mile timed drag strip, accelerate/turn/stop course, autocross (not timed), and road course track. No NASCAR oval time.

The instructors are from Skip Barber Racing and they are very good. There are a few Chrysler employees present as well. I have been to other track days and this was a good one. I have done quite a bit of autocross in a MINI Cooper so I was familiar with that layout. The Crossfire does very well there and keeps up with the big cars on the track, except the Viper. Of course the Viper is the hardest to drive well, lots of power and no electronic aids to help you keep it on line. It was the only car that was spun off into the dirt a few times.

I think you will enjoy it. It's not as hard core as some track days, as the level of experience of the attendees is varied, but the instructors find our quickly what people can do.

All,
Thanks for the feedback. I will be sure to let you know how the course was. I am looking forward to exploring the limits of the SRT-6 without abusing mine.

check out the video on Chrysler.com. They show a crossfire going 135-140 mph on the autobahn.

cfire,

I've seen the video and the car was absolutely rock solid as far as stability goes. I hope to be able to take one of the SRT-6s up to 130 or higher to see just how stable it is for myself. The track at Daytona should provide an opportunity to experience this kind of speed.

I just signed me and my bro up for the one held at "BeaverRun" on the 23rd of April. Going to get a lot of pics, can't wait!

Desert6's write up is pretty accurate. I have been to all three SRT Track Experiences they've done in Las Vegas. I was going to get an SRT-6 when they came out but the price deterred me, but I have to say that the SRT-6 is the easiest car to push hard around the race course and the autocross course. You can definitely get more out of the Viper but even as someone who drives a Viper GTS every day you still find yourself having to focus alot more as the Viper is not nearly as forgiving of mistakes as the SRT-6.

MoparMan,

I think that I will have the most fun with the SRT-6. It has just enough power to be really fun without scaring the heck out of me.

That's pretty accurate for that car. It's a great handling car and you can really hang it out because ultimately the car will save itself. I blew the instructor's mind during my SRT-6 session on the track as he jetted out thinking he would leave us since he knew that those of us in his group are Viper owners. Anyway, I hung right on his tail while he proceeded to push the pacing car (SRT-4) and the two of us left the other two cars in our group. When we got back in the instructor told me after all the sessions that he never thought I'd be able to stay on him like I did. I definitely had the most fun in the SRT-6. I drove the Viper hard, but was a little paranoid about looping it and looking bad since I drive a Viper every day. Besides, on the road course they made the three of us that had group up start in the Vipers since they knew we are all Viper owners. Thus, we were learning the course during our laps in the Viper.

MoparMan, That was exactly my experience. The SRT-6 made me seem like a better driver than I am. My viper has no ABS braking, so at least the srt-10 did, I did lose the rear end on one lap, but not a complete spin out.

Yeah, the SRT-6 would be a great car to learn to autocross or track in - decent hp, handles great, brakes great. don't get me wrong, I pushed the Viper pretty hard too (misjudged my entry into the esses at one point and got two wheels in the air going over the roll curb). I glad to say I never looped it or even came close. We had two of our fellow Nevada Region Viper owners spin the car during the track session, though...

Unfortunately, the big high banked turns won't be available to SRT Experience enrollees at Daytona. That's what the SRT Driving Experience office said when I called.

jaxsrt6,
Thanks foe the heads up. I will have to call to confirm. I was really looking forward to experiencing the high banks.

Me too. It's why I'm not going. I'm sure it'll still be fun, and if I had ordered my car with the right timing & it was free, I'd go. But for $300 I probably can attend a club event, with money left over for a set of pads, and -- after proper instruction of course -- go as fast as the track, the car, and my abilities allow.
