Default Dual Climate Control Question???

Can someone explain how this works? The book might as well be in chinese....

Basically, my wife had her temp dial on like 2 red dot, and mine was on the 2nd blue dot. Shouldn't that mean her vents blow warm air and mine cool? Well, all vents were blowing warm air.

How does this thing work? Thanks.

it should mean that, yes.

were you on VENT or A/C? if the AC wasn't on, you were both feeling ambient air that was just off-center, and you may not notice a difference. try it with the A/C on, or try a larger differential between the temps.

I think the dual zone climate controls in these cars sux. My wife is always cold, and I am always hot. So, she will want hot air on her side, and I will want the AC on my side. As you discovered, we both get a blast of tepid air. Fidgeting with the controls and trying different settings got me the cool air that I wanted through the dash, but I swear I was getting her hot air down by my feet.

Here's my suggestion to keep everyone happy. I'll wear shorts and a tee, she can wear jeans and a sweater. And nobody touches the HVAC controls. Those climate control wheels are an embarrassment to the car, by the way. In an otherwise gorgeous interior, you have these silver plastic wheels that are obviously two pieces each glued together. It looks like Revell-Monogram supplied them. I think a pair of one-piece, matte-finish black rubber wheels would have looked a lot more up market. Probably worth the extra nickel. But then, what difference does the appearance of the HVAC unit make, if it fails to deliver?

I didn't try it with the AC on, but I tried it with it on vent with one on full cold and the other on full hot. It was hot air only coming from all the vents. Ill try it with the AC on next...

Which vents are supposed to be different? The left 2 for driver and right 2 for passenger or the middle the same vent?

No problems here. It works as advertised. Turn the aircon on and pick your settings, same with the heater. All vents on each persons side of the car will throw out the temp that was selected.

Well, I haven't had problems if both sides were on cold or hot...the problem I have is when one is on hot and the other on cold...it wants to make them both hot. *confused*

My point exactly... the dual zone climate controls don't function in "dual zones". But if my wife and I are both cold or hot, then we are in luck.

I was also wandering about why I always felt warm air when my wife moved her side to warmer. I finally solved the mystery! She was turning the center air vent away from her side since she didn't want the air blowing directly on her. As soon as I pushed it back in her direction, I got cooler air than she did.

The small cabin area of the crossfire is also to blame. It is hard to separate the air from one side and the other in such a small space.

Seriously, do you really believe there are two zones in that little tiny cabin? I don't care if you're blowing 100° air on one side and -20° air on the other side, the entire inside of the car will be one temp. I can't believe Mercedes even bothered with this.

Mine works just as it should. The wires blows warmer air than my side. Of course it does mix to a neutral temp. But if she complains I tell her just feel your vent. Works for me.

Let me correct you before 180 gives you a demerit for spelling : 'wires' ?

Funny. I refer to mine as "Chains".
