Was there a cap?
Was there a cap?
We have been staying at the cottage and I brought the car. As there is no garage I have been checking under the hood for critters.
i never really noticed shiny brass before so I am wondering if I have lost a cap on the drive up.
it is located at the fitting where the lower rad hose connects to the block. Does anyone know if there was a cap?

Is that the well for the cold weather heater used to warm up the radiator fluid (and extended to warming up the cooling system for 'cold starts')? Just curious. If you lost a cap, maybe try a rubber cap that comes with various sizes of pipe or electrical conduit. If not, wrap it with some rubberized 'stretchy' tape that adheres to itself making one 'glob' of rubber (if it is of concern, that is). Good luck.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s there to allow for a quick rad flush. My NA engine had one on it too.
You’re not missing anything. If your rad and overflow are full then you’re good.

That is the location of the power input. The heater was standard equipment, but you had to buy the cable which was not too cheap. I will look for the photos I took of the set up.
The same heater was attached to cars delivered to the northern US states.

I love this forum! I bought my Crossfire 16 years ago last week and joined this forum even earlier. I'm still learning. I had never noticed either the brass fitting or the black cap when I changed my hoses. I had to go look. I don't have either - as mentioned this was a northern climate option. Mine is a South Carolina car. I had never heard of this option. Although searching for "block heater" brings up a post from 2017 and a post from earlier this year. I either missed those posts or forgot about them. I guess that the automobile with the VIN for the Mercedes SLK320 that I used to order my hoses was a southern car or at least didn't have that option since it appears to me that there are two lower hoses instead of one. Happy Labor Day!
