Default Purchase of 2005 Roadster Advice

Hi Folks, I am considering purchasing a 2005 Limited convertible and would like to get some advice as to what to look for. The car has 40k miles and appears in excellent shape. Are there problem areas I should review? I am planning on having a mechanic review. Any thoughts would be useful. Thanks so much. Jody

At 40K wear should not be a big issue, but age deterioration might be. Check all the rubber bits ( hoses, the belt, tires etc )
Don't overlook the hoses under the right rear for the pump and filter.
If you buy it, consider replacing all the fluids - oil, coolant, power steering, transmission, differential, brakes
resolder the RCM, replace the CPS with a Bosch just for grins.
40K is also about the time the valve cover vents start leaking, reseal them.

Jody - Check the Top closely for any separation of the glass from the fabric. Common issue with convertibles in the southern climates.

At 40K the car is still a Baby....Most 2005 are pushing 100,000 miles. Mine is at 95,000 miles.

I would also check the age of the battery and how often it is started and driven. An old/weak battery will cause several issues with our Crossfire's.

Nice find. If you have to replace the battery, go with an AGM. That way no battery acid leakage.

Considering your comments. The brake wear indicator on the dash is on. I was going to take it to a non-dealer repair shop that comes highly recommended.

I was told by the mechanic who inspected the car that it needed front brakes.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If possible, check for water intrusion into trunk, especially in the bottom, below the lower cover. Sensitive components located there. Rear window adhesion to top material, extremely common failure.Good Luck!

Valve cover vents should be resealed when they start to show signs of leakage, it is very slight at first so you are not going to get the engine covered in oil. Why make work, mine have done 40,000 miles and they are just fine, they may last another 40,000 miles who knows?
If the rear window glass bond to the roof material has failed definitely look for water in the trunks wells under the carpet, water in there ruins the security pump and is a beetch to fix and is not cheap either.
