Car wash story
Re: Car wash story
Sorry for putting this on the roadster thread but just this morning I looked out in the parking lot at work, and this guy is pulled over behind my car and he's looking all over it. I thought he might have backed into it but after checking he was only admiring the car. Yes you could spend 50 grand on a vette but then you'd have a car that isn't as unique as the car we own, be it a coupe or a roadster. I've seen a ton of Corvettes on the road and very few Xfires. Just last week a lady in a Jag was honking and pointing at my car and giving me a thumbs up. This car is the best ego boost I've ever had and I wouldn't trade it for any Vette.

I would probably try to find the nicest "driver", '63 - '67 coupe I could find.
The last time I went shopping for a new Vette was in the early spring of 1983. Sitting in the showroom right next to a brand new "84" Vette was a beautiful '65 or '66 coupe, 327 - 300 hp - 4 spd. for exactly 1/2 the price of the new one. It was black with a white interior, and was perfect. If it had been "electric blue" or red, I probably would have bought it. Not that I have anything against black cars, they're just too hard to keep clean for me. I usually prefer "colors" that's all. Now when I look back, I sure could kick myself for not buying it, but as they say, "hind sight is always 20-20).
I realize this has nothing to do with this thread, but I just thought I'd chime in. Sorry.
Re: Car wash story
Yea +fireamx, we all seem to have a story like that! I guess if we could see into the future, the present would be boring! All I know is that I love my crossfire, and am lucky to be able to ride in a few other fun cars as well. Sometimes life deals you lemons, sometimes not!
Re: Car wash story
Hi Robin,
I fell in love with the Crossfire when I first saw the concept car several years ago in a car magazine.
My wife and I almost bought a Crossfire when they first came out, but yielded to practicality and bought a PT Cruiser GT. I enjoyed my Cruiser, but when I found a new 2004 Crossfire at a great price, I said to hell with practicality and rushed out and bought my dream car!
I may buy another PT Cruiser, because they are just so handy, esp if a hybrid or high MPG version comes out is available.
Chrysler brand cars I've owned:
1987 Sundance Turbo
1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD (great car, still have it!)
2004 PT Cruiser GT

I have a very different problem. I work for a non-profit organization and travel around the state working with our membership (school boards). Since they are generally trying hard to find the resources to provide services for the kids in the district (often without success) they see me pull up in my Crossfire and immediately think "We're paying this guy too much!"
Re: Car wash story
i'm a recent owner...and much younger than most (24)...i have a 2005 srt6 coupe...i hate the cup holder and mirror ****...but i love the power and handling! i get looks at the gas stations, church, bank, hwy...just about everywhere! i want to go to the srt experience sooo bad but they are full at daytona when i could go ... i would also like dustless brake pads and tilt steering.
this is my first sports car and my first chrysler product of my own...my mom however has had 9 chrysler family brand products and though they all haven't been perfect they are definitely the most comfortable and stylish of all the brands. i wasn't a big fan of the fast back design, but the fixed spoiler made it look much more aggressive. the front-corner side view is real mean looking and i love it.

Re: Car wash story
Hi Robin, i am a new owner. Before this i drove a '03 PT GT, '03 SRT-4, and a fully custom turbocharged '98 Neon RT. I recently purchased my '05 base model, black, stickshift and am loving it. I must say, i was not very excited about the straight line performance of the car from what was on paper (215 hp). However after driving it for the past few weeks i must say that 215 ponies work awful hard. The car is more than quick enough with the stick shift but you'll never convince anyone with the hp numbers on paper. I guess since the crossfire is lighter than the MB SLK it really makes a difference in its sprint capabilities. On the other hand, the 3.2 V6 is clunky compared to my previous engines (chrysler 2.0 DOHC and 2.4 DOHC, both turbocharged). It makes more valvetrain noise at idle and daily driving RPM range than i would like to hear.
In reality, the car body is amazing, the wheel/tire combination is mind blowing, the suspension a joy to experience... but what it needs under the hood is a 2.4 DOHC turbo engine as used in the SRT-4 models and the already in use rear wheel drive 6 speed manual used in the jeep liberty with the 2.4 4 cylinder... it will cost less to produce than the hefty mercedes engine and target a entirely new market of performance seeking individuals (the srt-6 is out of reach for most thrill seekers - they'd rather buy a EVO or STI for 10k less just because it is in their price range not because they wouldn't like to have a rear wheel drive roadster) ... However, the rest of the car, should really not be changed at all. I recently saw the Chrysler Firepower concept and was left thinking "oh jeez... this cannot replace the best looking car chrysler has made in years... its a 350z with a chrysler badge".
But really, in all honesty, with the 2.4 4 cylinder, turbo + 6 speed manual, there would not be one of these left on the lots... they would sell above invoice even... the car is gorgeous, yes... but the engine cannot keep up with the cars looks...

Oh, and this car is not cute...it's exotic. So much for your art critic friend.
Re: Car wash story
A lot of people come up to me to compliment the Crossfire too. Unfortunately when I was in graduate school (2 cars ago), someone came up to me at a party and said is that your car outside that looks like xyz? I thought they were going to compliment me on it but actually they were asking b/c they had crashed into it. So now that's my conditioned/default reaction - fear - when someone asks about the car. Once that's cleared up I enjoy the compliment as I know all of you do. Today in fact someone at CVS came and asked if that was my car. I also notice when stopped at crosswalks (a daily occurrence in DC), people staring at it as they go by and you can read their lips saying "nice car." There are a lot of nice cars on the road but certain ones like the BMWs it seems like every 3rd or 4th person has, so people don't give them a second glance. It is nice to have something unique.
Re: Car wash story
I just stumbled across this old thread and saw the same coat.

Re: Car wash story
Hi All, have to say that I totally agreed with your comments on the head turning capability of the Crossfire.
We traded my wife's Mini Cooper S Convertible works (tuned up to 230 BHP) in for our black Crossfire roadster around six months ago and the Mini was a looker or so we thought. You don't see many Crossfire's in the UK and even fewer roadsters.
When I go out with her in the Crossfire the car gets looked up and down all the time and when we take the car to a hand car wash it gets positive comments every time. This car is stunning compared to most other cars on the road.
To be honest I had never considered a Crossfire but my wife passed a Chrysler garage and spotted a Crossfire, she came home and said that the only car she would swap her Mini for was a Crossfire. As soon as I saw the car I fully understood why she wanted one, we signed up for the car on the spot and we don't regret it for a minute.
It's a totally different car to drive compared to the Mini. After driving our Mini you would get out of the car all hyped up but it was quick. The Crossfire is not quite as quick as our tuned Mini but it's so relaxing to drive in comparison, more of a fast cruiser and I much prefer it.
When the tops down compared to the mini the style is stunning!
Why the hell did Chrysler sell so few of these when it's such a good car?
Alan & Sue.
