Default New owner - Roof Problem!

Hi everyone I bought my Sapphire Blue Crossfire Friday Night and now something odd has happened.

I saw the roof operate normally and drove it with the roof up and the roof down.

Today, I decided to drop the roof (I have no instructions in the manual as the roof is not covered).

I think I did press the button before using the manual release in the roof.

Anyway so now, I go through this process -

1) Manually release the roof (like a quarter/half turn) and open it about six inches. Then I reseat the handle.

2) As I do step one the windows lower.

3) The I press the roof button and nothing! The light flashes on the button and the car beeps!

The car is in Park and as I said I saw it work Friday night.

I hope it's something I'm doing as the handbook has nothing about the roof in it.

I love the car and will be on the forum quite a bit.

Kevin.

Check the position of the collapsible wall in the trunk (that you can re-position to allow more room when the top is up). If the wall is not latched in as it is supposed to be you will have the problem you describe.

I will do in about five minutes, then I'll report back. Thanks for the swift reply.

Where are these latches?

They are actually slots on the inside of the "boot" on the left and right sides, just under the deck. The collapsible wall (the one with the large hole in it) has tabs at either side near the top. These must fit into the slots and slide up to just under the deck. These tabs will then click into place in the top of the track(s).
You might look up the problem on the Forum's list of solutions to common problems: "Troubleshooting"

FYI, The wall can be in the correct position and you can still get the beep. It happened to me last summer and it ended up being because the trunk was not closed all the way. It seems I learn something about these cars everyday

OK so try the following

Open the trunk and check to see that the partion (fibreboard) is hanging vertically on it;s hooks.

If you are getting the beep something is not set right and your car is telling you it can't lower the top.

Happened to mne twice
One time I had the trunk open (thats a no no )
second time the partition had fallen off the hooks.

good luck

If the trunk is not properly shut, the internal trunk light goes on and will kill the battery after 3-4 days depending on battery health.

Yep.. evening cruise Tuesday night to the lake with the top down to secure a camping site in the wife's roadster. We took a tent rather than drive around with the travel trailer. In and out of the trunk etc.
Got home later that evening.. I push the button and no top movement.. Hmmm... uh.. did you close the trunk good? "well yes..".. get out..rattle the lid up and down.. then open and close to latch..she hits the button.. safety latch clicks and away we go. Good lesson for her "just in case"... LOL
