Default Putting top down issue.

According to the manual, to put the top down you unlatch it and then push it up 8 inches and you then push the button to lower the top. When I unlatch it, it will not go back 8 inches and stay there. So I push the button and it goes up but stops midway. I then give it a little push and it moves the 8 inches and I can then push the button and it finishes going down. Has anyone had this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I don't push the top up at all. After unlatching it, it springs up 6-8" on it's own and stops. Then I press the console button and down it goes. Of course, the windows need to be down and the trunk divider has to be in the proper position. I have never had it stop part way unless I release the button so I can clean the rear window and hatch area before I finish lowering the top.

You are doing nothing wrong. There are 2 cables in the top assembly with coil springs attached to them. They are what raises the top 6-8" when you release the T handle.
See Part #6 in the attached diagram. I'd guess you have one or more broken cables/springs.
( with the top closed, you can feel the cables and the tension on them in the front section just behind the header on either side )

Here's a link where you can get a set :

I checked today with the top up and the cable on the right and left side seemed tight but I don't know how tight they should be. If this is the issue I will just help it up as it starts.

Maybe the seller doesn't know what these are for: "These are the cables that run through the sides of the top cover to keep top cover tension above the door glass." I have the same problem, though...just started all of a sudden!

Yea, the top has to go up about 8 inches, so the "Top Open Switch" senses that the top IS open. If it doesn't, the TCM won't run the pump - cause if the top was not actually up and still latched to the frame - the pump and hydraulics would be damaged by trying to move the top when it was not POSSIBLE to move the top.

But I see the other guys have you on the rigth track....
