Default Just trying to do the right thing and...

it bites me in the posterior - literally...

So, I'm driving to the grocery store and I see two kids on the side of the road. One looked really hurt and the other one was carrying/dragging him. I stopped to see if they needed help and the guy behind me slammed into me (he's a retired Bloomfield cop). His car was pretty messed up - the Crossfire needs a new bumper and trunk lid, but appears OK otherwise. The kid was having a bad asthma attack and had to be taken to the hospital. The car runs and both drivers unhurt, so I guess it's OK...

The other guy... shows how solid the Crossfire is!

... and of course the only thing I'm worried about is that I had the Karmann stickers under the wing and now I can't find my other set!

You still did the right thing by trying to help. It looks like the other guy got the worst of it and the insurance company will rule in your favour...probably 100%.

Really glad everyone's ok and that the kids ok to.

Jeez, insurance will definitely cover you in your favor. So how did the kid get to the hospital?

They called out an ambulance because people thought the kid got hit by one of us. They took him in that. I agree - as much as I really like my Crossfire - it's just a car. It's way more important that everyone was ok. I already heard form the insurance company. Both of us had teh same company and they already closed my claim and are putting all my expenses on his claim.

Me too - I'm really not ready to replace this car. It's the best one I've ever owned.

Kudo's to you, your action could have actually saved his life...sorry for the car, but as a parent with a child with asthma, I appreciate your action.

Details on how you stopped? Did you get hit as you were slowing down or did you stop in the middle of the road? The front of the car that rear ends always gets more damage than the rear of the car being rear ended - that being sad the Crossfire held up extremely well considering you got struck by such a large turd.

Just out of curiosity, did the ex-cop get cited?

He got a verbal warning. I was stopped dead - mostly in the bike lane - back end sticking out. The speed limit is 25 there - he was probably going 45 because I saw him in my rear-view before stopping and he came up VERY quickly. He was doing the same thing I was doing - trying to figure out if the kid was in trouble - and he was. He was at fault - (the insurance company has already determined that) and they are going to fix my car - all that really matters.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. You did the right thing, we need more people in today's society like you. We all need a helping hand sometime in life.

Funny how it always seems to happen that way. I sure hope that "verbal warning" doesn't have any effect on his insurance record. Unfortunately the "value" of your car just got trashed thanks to your insurance company reporting everything to "CarFax".
Good to know the kid had people (like you, and his friend) looking out for him.
Sorry to hear about your car. Good Luck finding the parts you will need to fix it.

Carfax is great if you're a buyer...

I have plans on keeping this car as long as it runs, assuming that I can get it repaired (I meet with appraiser tomorrow). I noticed that the trunk lid is not aligned with the body, and I can't tell if it is only a bent trunk lid or if the body is bent - causing the misalignment. I still marvel at the apparent lack of real damage, considering how hard it hit. I had a clip-on smoked visor shade on the driver's side. when I got hit it actually snapped off and went flying.

Adjuster looked at it this morning. Initial estimate is $4330, but he says there could be more stuff exposed when they start taking it apart. Wish me luck!

Mention reduced value to the insurance company and keep mentioning it every time you talk with them. I did the same on a previous car that I owned. I kept mentioning reduced values and depreciation of the vehicle due to Carfax values on a repaired vehicle. First estimate and settlement was offered for the $1,600 repair, which later turned to $3,000 for repairs and depriciated value. Insurance companies can be made to eat that depreciated value amount as well as repairing the car. Why should you? Just a word of advice...depreciated value!!! lol

They located a used trunk lid and bumper - both are supposed to be in excellent condition. The exhaust may be damaged - I'll try and talk them into going with the Borla to replace it - even if I have to pay some of the difference.

Good luck! I do have a stock setup from the collector back to the tips if you need it.

Glad you stopped. Now am I seeing this correct that his Air bag on the passengers side came on? Sure looks like it. I have to admit the Truckers gor far to fast, in their trucks and follow too close also. Way too much NASCAR racers.

Thanks for stopping I am sure the Kids were thrilled!
