LS1 Swap
Re: LS1 Swap
1 - remove SLK 320 engine
2 - buy Chevy LS1 engine
3 - insert Chevy LS1 engine
Re: LS1 Swap
all joking aside here guys how complicated would it be?
As I understand things one of the main issues with the engine swaps on the XF is the ECM controlling gearbox functions - surely it'd be easier to swap out Merc engine/box/ECM and insert the whole LS+tranny+ECM (ok there would likely be some transmission tunnel 'fettling' needed not to mention a custom prop). Ok I know that that is likely vastly simplified but if people swap LSx's into RX8s (which likely have even more electrical gubbins than we do......)

Re: LS1 Swap
As I understand it, it may be possible to physically transplant the LS1 and trans, but getting it to run, and drive, whilst playing nice with all the other benz computers is where the problem lies. I'm sure somebody more versed will correct me if I'm wrong, but only because of several, extremely educated members here on this board was it possible to transplant a Benz v8, and get it to play nice. There were a couple of pioneers who forged the way through untold problems to make it happen. Some one has also swapped a Chrysler Hemi v8 into a Crossfire by utilizing the whole front crossmember from the donor, but how (and even if) all the other functions work is not known. To cut a long story short, best of luck if you attempt it, but you're basically on your own ..............
Re: LS1 Swap
What do you end up with, a heavy poor handling car that cant sell for the cost of it. If it is to drag race then build that. If it is a driver, the rear cant last, the weight balance is going to be off and there lots of wires and parts to try to connect.
Cars today are all interconnected and the dash may not work with non MB parts as one example or the heater or or or , I just dont see the reason to try when the low cost crossfire will do well on the street and beat most other cars today, and you can get emissions and insurance without problem.
