6-speed base model, Special Edition, or Limited?
Re: 6-speed base model, Special Edition, or Limited?
Nope. Me neither.
I was offered $14,000 by CarMax this summer for mine. It had 25,000 or so on it at the time and was/is in tremendous condition. I seriously doubt they gave him that much for it.
As much as I dont like CarMax all that much, they DID offer me more than anyone else. NOT ENOUGH, but more than any other dealer.

Your opinions are appreciated.[/quote]
There was an extensive thread on the differences a few weeks back may want to do a quick search. While a fair amount of info has been capture in this thread, the differences are more than you might expect, although maybe the additional differences you won't care about either.
One that you might is cruise control. I don't think base models have it. Personally, I think it's a basic feature that is nice to have. As far as the other items, sounds like you want a manual. I had manuals for over 20 years and still love them, but not with all the traffic I deal with in my commute. If you are commuting in this, definately look for some of the previous threads comparing the manual tranny versus automatics in the Crossfire. Also, the auto is an auto stick and it's pretty darn good as an alternative to the fun of a manual.
I have a limited and like all the features it offers. Personally I don't care about leather seats either (I like cloth, not just in the summer but also in the winter. Leather gets cold and hence heated seats are great for the colder climate if you have leather and I do. It was standard on the Limiteds. HOWEVER, the power seats are great. They adjust in ways the base manual seats don't -- and I think the additional adjustments are necessary in this car -- for finding the optimal comfort setting for all drivers. Up, down, tilt, back, forth and recline, etc.
I have a garage and the home link is a nice feature too, which I'm used to because all my cars have had it -- however most garage remotes come with it too so you just have to put it on your visor, no big deal. With regard to the stereo, the subwoofer behind the seats does add to the sound of the stereo, but you could also put some in and upgrade the stereo, etc. The nice thing about the Limited is you don't have to worry about upgrades - and can focus on performance mods.
Good luck. Can't go wrong either way.

On another note, I am also dealing with a local dealer who will go to the dealer auctions anywhere in the country (he bids online), and find the car you want in the color that you want. I spent a half hour on the phone with him yesterday, and he was throwing out some auction prices for Crossfire roadsters that seemed ridiculously high. Of course, he also wanted me to believe that the NADA book is the Bible of used car prices. I don't really know what to think, because I bought my MKZ from him, and really did get a decent deal.
Re: 6-speed base model, Special Edition, or Limited?
I agree, PNA, it's hard to go far wrong either way. As to the merits of various features, cruise control is absolutely unimportant to me. I might use it once a year. I have Homelink on both of my cars now, but I can live without it. The stereo in the Limited may be better than the base/Special Edition stereo, but it still isn't great. No CD changer, Ipod input, satellite radio, etc. It's probably not a bad idea to upgrade the sound system in any Crossfire.
The seats are probably the most important issue. The power seats in the Crossfire aren't great, compared to my Lincoln. There is no memory feature. I haven't driven a Crossfire with the cloth seats yet, so I don't know for sure whether they will work for me.
I currently am driving my second Sebring convertible with AutoStick. It's pretty useless. I suspect that the Mercedes transmission is much better than the Chryslers, but is it ever really fun to shift the automatic yourself in the Crossfire?
One thing struck me when test driving a Crossfire this afternoon. There certainly are a lot of areas where the Crossfire is lacking. The sound system and navigation system were outdated before the car was introduced. The power seats should have memory. There is no spare tire. 215 hp is not particularly impressive, especially in a $40,000 car. Despite these issues, I still want one.

Understood.
I'd only add that the memory seats in this car aren't important to me because I'm really the only one who drives it so the seat stays where I want it to anyway. The adjustment is the key.
WRT the horsepower - if you want more than the 215, go for the SRT6 -- OR, you can Mod these cars and pick up some ponies that will help. Personally, the car is so light and handles so well, the 215 feels quite a bit faster than what it offers. It's still quick enough and nimble enough to out pase most things on the road.
As you say, despite it's shortcomings -- people still love'em. I know I do. Hope you find the right fit for you. When you do, post some pictures and tell us about your experiences.

Base coupes have cruise control. I wish people would learn about things before they post things that are not true and spread rumors.
The base has everything except leather heated power seats, a storage bin instead of cup holder, and no fog lights. Also doesn't have garage door opener. Base coupes dont have the speaker behind the seat or amp. These are the only major differences inside the cabin.
Compared to most "base" cars the crossfire is pretty much loaded. It is not striped down to the bone like other base cars. It is just missing a few things inside that i didnt want or need and were not worth the extra thousands of dollars at the time I bought mine brand new back when they weren't discounted.

Re: 6-speed base model, Special Edition, or Limited?
I bought my SE in 06 after it was discounted. It was RED and the top went down. Modified it to my needs.Installed leather seats with power and heat. Did not wire in the heaters.I can still do it. The radio is fine. Bought a spare for $100. I don't need Navigation.Putvisual pressure indicators on the upgraded SRT6 wheel's valve stem. cost $10. I use em on all my wheels, cars and bikes. Just preflight. Don't need TPMS. Car cost me 25K still in wrap. There were no limited stick roadster at the dealer. Car today has 5K and no corrosion. Installed cupholder for $4. Gary
