Roadster musings...
Roadster musings...
Having a bit of insomnia which is why I'm on the forum at such freakishly early hours of the weekend morning (for me anyways) and the mind wanders...
So get out there and enjoy your lives, fellow owners. We may not agree on many facets of our lives but we can agree on this - Crossfires are a world of fun for those who understand!
- Why is it I only see other Crossfires (outside of meets) when I'm NOT in mine? I don't see many to begin with but I'll be darned if it only seems to be when I'm on the bike or in the PT or riding with the bf. lol
- Ever notice no matter how crummy of a day you may be having, once you drop that top and hit the road, life is absolutely wonderful?
- In a way, I am more free in the Roadster then on my sportbike. What I mean is, on the bike it's ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time for the non-riders out there - which btw saved my life) but in the Roadster with the top down...well it's a feeling to be had better then described. The wind in your hair, the immediate sounds of the engine and exhaust, the myriad smells of a gorgeous Spring day and the sounds that you just don't hear in an enclosed car or with a full face helmet. Coming home from work the other day, the rush of fellow commuters behind and beside me, I got caught at a red light. As I am somewhat impatiently (I admit) awaiting the light change, I hear this tiny chorus. I was right next to a miniscule wetland area, maybe a dozen or so frogs warming up for a full on springtime concert. So faint atm but really quite wonderful. Teaching me to appreciate those formerly annoying stops.
- The amazing views from a convertible - being able to appreciate an entire sunset or night sky full of stars with no sight restrictions. Love that. Having your passenger throw up their arms like they are on a roller coaster with a smile that just doesn't stop. Even having to put on sun block for a quick drive because you are that exposed makes me shake my head and grin like a fool.
- Just feeling darn lucky and extremely appreciative to be at a point in my life where I can enjoy such a fun lil car. Especially considering there was a time in my life when all I had was a beat up little Datsun F10 (cost me $450) that was my transportation AND the roof over my head when I was nearly destitute (least I had the car). I am so thankful for what I have and even for what I went through to get it. Nothing makes one appreciate having quite like not having.
- Having a Roadster AND living in Colorado - the land of breathtaking mountain roads and abundant sunshine. Really, all I can say is "wheeeee!"
So get out there and enjoy your lives, fellow owners. We may not agree on many facets of our lives but we can agree on this - Crossfires are a world of fun for those who understand!

I've wanted a convertible for years and finally went for it. I'm glad I went for the Crossfire as I believe it is the nicest looking convert. on the road.
Pulled up to a stop sign this evening, here in town, and a fella stopped and hollered out: "Nice looking car!"
One of the reasons I jumped in, Bat, is that I was in Colorado last year and, while riding up through Trail Ridge Road, passed several convertibles and told the wife: "Now, that's the way to enjoy the mountains."
Hopefully, I'll be enjoying that same drive this fall.
Re: Roadster musings...
I was a coupe guy my whole life. Would never buy a convertable. The closest thing to a 'vert I ever owned was T-tops, and I rarely took them out. My wife wanted one so we looked, then she said why not the XF. I told her I didn't like them, but I would look. Well, the roadster has great lines with the top up, or down...and I was hooked, and definitely hooked when I learned about the SRT...fast and good looking, make for a good combination...now that I have the coupe, we can both show our cars...
Re: Roadster musings...
Well said.
We're approaching year three with our roadster and I love it just as much, if not more, than the day we test drove it. We went to look at a used G35 coupe and came home with a brand new Crossfire Roadster. Spent quite a bit more than we had planned but the fun we have, the friends we've made, and the comments/looks we get from people make it worth it... not to mention the rarity. I believe that's what makes the Crossfire that much more special to own. It's one of those cars that not many people have and the ones that do are scattered so that you don't see that many... until we gather and that is an awesome site as well.
But really, to me, that is what makes a Crossfire special. The style is unique, it's attractive, your eye really catches it in a crowd. I've driven by loaded car lots and immediately my eye will be drawn to a Crossfire sitting over to the side not even in main view. I have had numerous people pull up beside us at a light or stop while I'm pumping gas and ask "what is that?... I like it". A couple of years ago we were backing in to a parking space, in a huge crowd, to watch a fireworks show on the 4th. Of course we had the top down and as I was moving into my space I overheard a teenage boy parked next to us say "man... that's a nice car. I bet that S.O.B. will fly!" Yes... Yes it will.
Good times...

Re: Roadster musings...
Well, it happened again tonight. My driveway comes in at the back of my house. You come down an alley and pull into my drive. I was washing the wife's car and had my roadster parked at the end of the drive with top down. A gentleman drove down the street and caught sight of the roadster. He stopped, backed up and came down the alley and stopped by the car. He saw me and asked: "What kind of car is that." After telling him, he said: "That's a beautiful car!"
Re: Roadster musings...
My thoughts exactly, except California instead of Colorado! I watch the redwing blackbirds & the blackwing blackbirds, and the cows running & the woolly weeders (sheep) when the traffic slows.
Can't ride my Suzi 800 cruiser this year with my bum wrist, but it's as much fun in my XF with the top down. I'll be the "baggage" on my hubby's bike this year - horrors! Went shopping ( & found) a used BMW 1200 (2003) yesterday for him so that I can ride behind him (that's the excuse - he could've got a different seat for the Road Warrior).
Anyway, I'm laughing because his face is lobster red from Saturday in the XF with the top down!
