After picking fleece out from under the crossfire letters on the back of my car I assume thats one reason people remove the letters. Not to mention how hard it can be to polish and wax around them. Some don't like being a rolling billboard so they remove all advertising from the car. In the case of your car they debadged in some areas and added badges in others. Dyslexic.

Cool Re: Ok I broke down and bought ANOTHER + questions

Congrats on the new Crossfire and congrats on your old Crossfire. That ceder interior is too cool! I like the oxidation white one too (easy Franc) The fact that these colors weren't available on the SRT6 is a shame. I hate my faux suede seats and absolutely despise grey. I looked at a lot of different cars before I bought the Crossfire. I couldn't believe how many of them had grey interiors. It reminds me of 70's condos. The developers were so afraid they would greatly offend a potential buyer that they painted all there developements some shade of pale puke so they just slightly offended everyone.

The closest I can get is when Mi1xfire and me were at milan last October. We both had the 16633 Magnaflow cat-back. The only other difference was the NeedsWings CAI, I have one and he doesn't. J-Marc has a auto trans, I have a six speed.

~Me ~~~~~~J-Marc
.7199 ~~~~~~.1999 RT
2.1641~~~~~~ 2.3610 60'
9.4741 ~~~~~~9.8900 1/8 ET
75.22 ~~~~~~~73.08 1/8 MPH
14.6761 ~~~~~15.2079 1/4 ET
96.14 ~~~~~~~95.20 1/4 MPH

He was able to tree me easily with the auto trans and preloading. Each time I watched him pull away and I'm stuck trying not to kill the tires with the clutch. In retrospect, I should have taken NeedsWings up on his offer to use his slicks!

BTW....Mi1xfire can cut a mean freakin' tree!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Steve, those "French" guys can be pretty quick.

Well, can anybody top those #'s with a 6 spd. and just a NeedsWings Intake? Or even without one.

Hey Crosshair it sounds like you could have my car. I turned it in off lease on Long Island with 6-7000 miles last April I believe. Its possible it went to someone in NJ between me and you. I had everything on it that you've described and pictured. The V-6 badges on both sides, the Karmann badge on the drivers side only I believe, the rear valance and I also had small Chrysler wings cut from Sterling Silver on the lower right glove box door (this could have been removed). I removed the Crossfire badging on the trunk and returned to the stock engine cover after selling the Mercedes cover I had on it. I also had the wind blocker while I had it but removed that too. Can't think of any other distinguishing features it might have had other than the VIN. When I get home and can check it I'll post it and you can see if its mine. If it is you have one terrific car. It was never in the rain till I decided not to keep it and then I started to drive it every day. Only reason I decided not to keep it was I didn't want to keep black forever (my first black car, way to hard to keep clean) and I really wanted a stick (for my keeper). I'll post my VIN later today and you can let me know if its mine. I'd be happy to tell you anything about it you'd like to know. Oh its also got the Rotex Gold brake pads but theres probably no way you can check that. I'll be in touch. P.S. Actually you can check my build number posted below and see if the 5 digits are in your VIN. If they are we've more than likely got a match.

WOW- such a small world. Yes I DID buy your car. There was indeed an owner (for 6 months) in between us. Though it looks as if he took as good care of it as you did. Very clean. I only found a light ding on the passenger car that is difficult to see unless you view it from the right angle. Not bad considering my SRT-6 has 4 dings (2 in the door, 1 near gas tank, and one on roof) along with several other light scratches.

I PM'd you back! Thanks!

Oh btw, I think it's still got the Rotx pads, ie NO BRAKE DUST! Thank you! I need to get a set for the SRT-6 they dust up almost immediately after cleaning. Did you install them on both the front and rear?

You know its crazy but I don't remember if I installed them front and rear. I'll check when I get home. I think I installed them both front and rear. As far as the dings go there were 0 when I turned the car in but it was never out of my site when I drove it so the guy between us was obviously not quite as careful. We'll talk more later. Marc

Hey Glen just checked my records and I did indeed only put the Rotex Gold pads on the front brakes. This was done on 7/3/07 @ 5,220 miles. The rotors were resurfaced at the same time as the pads were replaced as this was considered to be the best way of reducing the squeel which is typical. So in the first 28 months I had the car I only drove it 5,220 miles. From 7/3/07 till the date I gave the car back (4/8/08) I put on the balance of the miles it had when I turned it in 8,732. Most of those miles came between 2/9/08 and 4/8/08 when my new car put the Crossfire out of the garage and I began to use it most every day. I'll try and contact you this weekend to fill you in on the other details of my ownership. In checking my records though I can tell you it was never in the dealership for anything other than an oil change or the factory cooling fan recall (other than the above mentioned brake pad install). Talk to you this weekend.

Hey, that's great- thanks for the detailed info- makes me feel much more comfortable with the purchase. You may or may not have seen my other post (in this sub-forum) about the used car lot putting in 5w-30 oil rather than 0w-40. Although even if I took it into Chrysler to get the oil changed- chances are they don't stock the rare 0w-40 variety.

Thank you kindly for taking such good care of it. It's great to know it's possible to buy a clean used car. Granted I don't know how the previous owner drove it however it still looks quite clean and other than the VERY minor ding in the passenger side door the paint looks perfect. I can't even find a single hairline scratch. That's rare, especially on black!

I just wish I could have caught you when you were selling off your add-ons. I'm interested in picking up a wind visor, and tow cover (very cool find btw, you got it from VW?). Also how was the install on the rear diffuser under the bumper? Did it install using pre-existing holes or did new ones have to be drilled? I ask because I've entertained the idea of swapping it out to my SRT-6, however it looks like it's attached with adhesive as well, in which case I'll leave it alone. Btw, that's a rare mod- but looks great!

Hey Glen, The minor ding should be a quick fix by calling a paintless dent removal place. My son and I went shopping once taking the Crossfire. When we returned home he took his purchases out of the trunk and as I turned towards him I saw him closing the trunk lid with his elbow (obviously not a car guy). I yelled to stop but it was too late. He put the most minor of dents in the top of the wing. Nobody saw the dent but me and I'm so **** about my cars I couldn't stand it. I called the paintless dent removers and for under $100 I got what you see, absolutely no trace of anything. The rear valance is applied with 3M tape and special screws that are sort of a molly. When screwed in they spread apart the sleeve they're in to hold them in place. Can they be removed, I'm sure they can but I wouldn't. If you really like the diffuser you can get them I think for like $180. Try the Mopar Supercenter. I used them for many of my aftermarket parts. It took about 15 minutes to install. The tow hook cover was a VW part. Cost about $2-$3 and was something that came on a 2000 New Beetle Turbo I had. Required cutting the end off to shorten it to fit but it took 2 minutes and I thought it finished off the back nicely. Did the car still have the Chrysler Wings on the glove box door? I had ordered them from a craftsman in Greece. They were/are Sterling Silver. Not expensive at all but I thought it just dressed up the interior a bit. As I wasn't selling the car myself to its next owner I chose to take off and return to original everything I could before giving it back. So I had a ton of stuff I sold here on the Forum. As the car was never abused and never dirven in foul weather everything was in great shape. I especially liked the MB engine cover and the MB leather shift ****. Anything else you want to know just ask. If you want to talk let me know whens a good time to call.

Yeah the metalic chrysler badge is still on the glovebox. I'd love to do the diffuser on the SRT-6 but it's cost is tough to swallow- $200 for two pieces of plastic. UGH! On ebay they are even MORE expensive ($220).

What are you driving now- the Boxter? Btw, what type of oil did you use for the changes? I think the dealer put in 5w-30

Driving an '06 Boxster with 4,700 miles on it. I bought it a year ago this week with 3,900 miles. Carrera white with white gauges and white roll hoops. Black leather interior, 18" Boxster S wheels with colored Porsche crests, sport exhaust pipes and custom 4 piece embroidered mats with Porsche crests for the interior and 2 trunks. Drives more like the sports car I really was looking for (I've been looking for a replacement for the first NEW car I ever owned, a 1973 TR6 for 30 years now). Smaller interior feel, 5 speed trans. etc.. Love the Porsche ownership experience, great National club, great NY Metro club, tons of aftermarket OEM and non OEM stuff. BUT... its not a Crossfire. I think the Crossfire has equal or better build quality and the thing I loved most about it, its unique. Not that I see tons of Boxsters but I never see Crossfires. I haven't ruled out getting another some day. If prices don't turn around and start to go up I might consider one when my current lease is up on my daily driver ('08 VW Jetta 2.0T). Perhaps I'd look for a very low mileage Coupe. We'll see. Anything else you need to know just let me know. I'll Private message you my phone so you can call if you want. Take care. Oh yeh, I had the oil changed at the dealer and I know they used Mobil 1 synthetic but I don't know the weights, sorry.
