I can attest to cold temperatures tripping the TPM indicator light. Here in Las Vegas, the temperatures can reach 120 degrees in the summer (probably hotter at pavement level). In the winter, the temps can dip into the teens. That's when I get a TPM warning. I pump up the tires to the proper level, and it usually takes the computer about 90 minutes, give or take, to reset. I've only had to do it twice ever, so I'm not complaining.

Temperature shouldn't matter if you have less than 4 wheels losing air. Is it all 4 going down equally? Is just one wheel? My guess from the 1st post was that you have a slow leak in one of your tires. When it gets cold, you lose pressure, but they should all be losing airfairly equally. How many miles are on the tires? A Pot hole may have bent a rim, or it could also be fixed by removing the tire, and cleaning the inside of the rim and re-mounting the tire. If the Tire is out of round, (Broken Belt) or the rim has a slight bend in it, it can be found when its re-balanced.

just my 2 cents

New sensor fixed the issue as OP reported in post #20.
No more dash light, and no more slow leak.

BC.

When my TPM tripped, I checked the pressures on all four tires and they were equally low so I can only assume that it was because of the temperature. Would be interested to know what should really trip the indicator.

How about low air pressure.

I experienced the same issue and my dealer found that it was the sensor that had developed a hairline crack. Originally it was thought to be the valve stem (replaced) but the second visit revealed the issue with the sensor which was then replaced. They also recommended nitrogen and I switched.

Interesting. They are one-piece sealed units. The sensor IS the valve stem.

Originally he lied or unscrewed and replaced the valve insert and not the stem.

Should have been more specific - the gasket was thought to be the issue and this was replaced; however it was the stem itself rather than the gasket.
