Today's CO drive
Amazing Squaw Pass road:
Okay, first off let me say - the Crossfire was completely and totally built for the twisties, woohoo!
Like I'm telling you guys anything you don't already know, lol.
Give that car a curving mountain road and she is so in her element it is impossible to wipe the stupid grin off our lucky faces. And...true confession time, I actually was not too excited to be getting a convertible (originally wanted a coupe) but after my first real ride with the top down...well all I can say is "more, more, more!!!". Lol, yes, we had to roll up the windows, turn on the heater, and thank the person who came up with heated seats but it was absolutely marvelous. Even the car-equivalent of "bed-head" - roadster hair, was completely awesome. Which, to be fair, isn't a whole lot different from my normal crazed curls.
My, what a fun day we had - ran the full road twice plus turned around and redid the extra fun bits a third time, lol. We are truly blessed, life is good and on to the few pics!!

Re: Today's CO drive
Nice! MT or AT? Here is my local road I take. Went up this past week, no cars seen but mine and two others! Weekend is different story, too crowded. The 4x4's go up this road to get access to the river bottom to offroad, I do too during the summer. I also take my sportbike on this road. May have to blow up picture to see the words I typed regarding gear selection for each "stage".
Re: Today's CO drive
6-speed manual. When I drive, I drive - no phones, no eye contact with passengers, no automatic transmissions. I actually enjoy driving (also have this lil "control" thing going on, lol).
My bf, Bladecutter, had the honor of putting Mischief through her paces today. I have this truly unfortunate habit of getting speeding tickets and I only have 4 pts left on the license until this time next year so if we want to go at a more spirited pace, he has points to spare. I actually got a nice "slow down" top light flash from a friendly officer the first time we took the car up in the hills. Since I felt obliged to be good the rest of that ride, I figured we deserved to be bad this go round.
Btw, looks like a great road you have there. I love that you marked what gear you're in on each stretch! My Dad lives in Northern Cali. Took my old 250 out there last time I visited, he has some nice roads too.

Re: Today's CO drive
Bat,
I'm so jealous.
You have those mountains right in your back yard
I have driven those roads many times on vacations there before my Crossfire.
I did find my last two trips to the "Tail of the Dragon" and the Smokey Mountains in North Carolina a blast though.
Keep those beautiful pics coming !!

Re: Today's CO drive
Bat - What a FANTASTIC drive!!! I was out to Denver on business just two months ago, and happened to get a Mustang convertible from Hertz. I drove west on the 70 and turned off for Winter Park ... and up into the mountains. It was a beautiful drive, but all I could think was "Wish I was in my Crossfire". The pony car's performance was dissappointing, as it was the underpowered 6 cyl. (heavy car compared to the Crossfire) and an automatic (I too have the 6-speed), but the views were FABULOUS!!! I would SO like to bring my Crossfire out to CO and drive those beautiful mountain roads! Enjoy! I imagine you won't have too many more opportunites with the snow coming ...
Re: Today's CO drive
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the compliments about the pictures we have been taking.
We have just been having a blast with the car since we picked it up 2 weeks ago, and the smile isn't coming off of our faces very easily after a nice drive.
As for a group meet during the summer, well, we can definitely put together a list of great roads to have everyone explore, so it wouldn't be limited to "just" Deals Gap, as it is in that area of the country, which is a shame, because there are some other fabulous roads in that area that the locals keep secret from the tourists. 28, for example.
We can even have several levels of roads to offer visitors, depending on everyone's level of comfort with twists, hairpins, drop-offs, and even several levels of fun for people who wouldn't mind going rally style on incredible dirt packed roads.
I know there's probably lots of people who wouldn't want to go places that are steep drop offs, while others wouldn't want to run on dirt roads and risk scritches on their cars, so we here in Colorado can put together a little bit of everything for everyone, and then its just matter of everyone picking what roads suit them best.
And the best thing is, we can probably work something out to rent a road course race track one day if we had enough interested people contribute the needed funds.
CO is an endless possibility of fun, and is pretty much central to the entire US.
Something to think about for 2009.
One thing is for sure, the SRT6 crowd will have a REALLY unfair advantage over the N/A cars. :P
20% power loss at 5k feet (Denver).
40% at 10k feet (Estes Park).
56% at the parking lot on the top of Mount Evans (14k+ feet).
BC.

Re: Today's CO drive
I can't speak for the group, but I was SERIOUSLY impressed by the performance of the NA Crossfires at the Dragon. There were several NAs with much better drivers (especially +fire and Franc) that made me a small speck in the rearview mirror.
I think a summertime meet in Colorado would be awesome. I am one of those picky people who doesn't like to leave perfect pavement, but I'd love to see Colorado. These pictures and tdannar's bring back nostalgia. I haven't been there for 17 years.
