Default Roadster rear window problem

Hello, I'm new to this forum. Recently purchased a 2005 roadster and today I noticed that the rear window is coming unglued. Since it is no longer under warranty I guess it's my problem to solve. Is there an adhesive anyone can reccommend? If so - any suggestions how to do the repair? Thanks Ken Florentine Lincoln Falls Pa.

I assume you did not buy it from a Chrysler dealer and w/o any warranty. Suggest you immediately purchase an extended warranty if possible. The cost of the chrysler warranty is less then $2000. The top replacement will cost you at least $1500. It is a special process that is used to attach the window to the canvas top and I have not heard of anyone having any luck finding a product that will adhere and fix the issue..

The window will completely come away from the top within a month.Once it starts coming apart, that is all she wrote.

I had both of my tops replaced under warranty. My neighbor in Miami had his replaced after the dealer tried to fix it. Same with my neighbor in Cape Coral.

Is the rear window coming unglued or is the top slipping off of the lower frame/rail that the canvas attaches to?

I had the problem of the canvas appearing to separate from the frame/rail. I lowered the top part way (when it is folding) and found the top was partially off of the rail/frame. I placed the top back on the rail/frame and haven't a problem since.

Hope this works for you.

I got a great deal @ the chrysler dealer when I bought my

As to getting an extended warranty, you need to weight the cost of the warranty with the possibility (probablility?) of Chrysler going bankrupt.

I'm not sure how a Chrysler Corporation bankruptcy would shake out for those of us with an extended warranty.

Call the top manufacturer and ask them what adhesive to use to re-stick the top to the glass...

Hi , Plym 69 here. In a quandry as to how to resolve this rear window problem. The warranty is expired and I just spent so much to buy the car that the cost of a new top is very disappointing. Has anyone had any experience with Permatex black silicone adhesive sealant? Should the top be raised and locked while gluing? Seemed like this happened overnight. The car has been in a heated garage and has not seen rain much less even a wash job since we bought it. It is spotless.
Another discovery-a cover to an access port just in front of the right front tire is missing as is the multi-purpose wrench. Starting to think the "car of my dreams" is becomming a nightmare. Thanks for any ideas or sympathy. Ken

Drivers side 5097959AA and the passenger side 5097958AA and cost me $5.90 plus tax per splash shield.

Copied from another thread. I searched Access and Panel.

Ref the warranty being over.

If your car has less than 48,000 miles on it you are eligible to receive a DaimlerChrysler Service Contract plan.

Go to http://chryslerservicecontracts.com/ for more info.

Hope you are eligible!

Ref the parts.

Go to https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...74&postcount=1 and get 20% off parts for this month.

Oh yeah, WELCOME to the forum new guy!

Ken, just a couple of questions:
Was your car always a Pa. car, or did it come from another place? (Out of State perhaps?)
What sort of 69 plym do you have?
Don't be too upset with the problems you're having, many of us have had them too. I had to replace the lost inspection cover a while back, but the rear window in my 04 coupe is just fine.
Actually, the failing rear window adhesion problem is something that Chrysler should cover even after the 36k warranty is up because it's a safety issue. It may take a "class action " Law suit brought against them to get anything done, but I'm guessing there are probably enough cars out there experiencing the problem to warrant doing so. If not now, in the near future.
Don't lose faith in your car just yet. You have a great deal of enjoyment ahead of you. Albeit, when the weather gets a little warmer.

Thanks to all who have taken time to offer ideas on my problem. I'm going to try the Permatex and will give an update when the job is done. My wife Linda and I own and operate Morgan Century Farm B&B in Lincoln Falls Pa. We welcome any forum members and offer a discount to Mopar owners , military and seniors. Check us out at pa-bedandbreakfast.com We also advertise in Cars and Parts magazine during the summer months. We love the Crossfire and have considered trading Linda's '94 Chrysler LeBaron on another Crossfire roadster. Ken Florentine

PLYM69, I have seen replacement tops on E-bay from time to time listed for $600.00. Do a search and you may be able to track the company down. Good luck

The BIG expense is getting the top installed!
Permatex black silicone adhesive sealant? Don't think its gonna work for ya. It's great for gaskets and low stress applications not so much for holding things together. I used contact cement when I installed my convertible top (Camaro) strong stuff.
Have a picture of the problem area?

Thanks TIGHED1 you were right. I passed on the permatex after trying it on some plastic scrap. Wound up using 3MSuper Weatherstrip Adhesive. It seems to have done the job. With my wife crammed in behind the driver seat pushing out with a wad of old towels and me onthe outside with a wallpaper roller we managed to do a fairly respectable job. Of course I did a lot of masking of the area beforehand and covered to body area to protect from spills. It took about 20 minutes once we started-this stuff sets up fast. We'll see how it is tomorrow morning. It seemed to be holding quite well. Ken (plym69)

How did your "fix" end up working out? Did it hold? I have the same problem. Didn't notice it before I bought the car, not that it would have kept me from buying it if I did see it. I just would have made the dealer fix it had I seen it. A little p.o.'d at myself that I broke rule #1, falling in love with a specific car.
