My Xfire is in shop
My Xfire is in shop
Just dropped off the xfire at the dealer today. At around 3K rpm, theres a very clear clatter to the engine. Sounds like a sewing machine. The service advisor said that the xfire tech is backed up and won't be able to look at it until Mnday Its gonna be a long weekend...
Re: My Xfire is in shop
Well.. so much for Chrysler customer service. I got a call back today to come pick up the car.
Here's the exact wording on the work order:
"Cust states hearing engine clatter at 3,000 rpm. Tech confirmed clatter, but nothing officially wrong. No known remedy for noise. No repairs indicated."
I was pissed. I expressed my dissatisfaction with that analysis and i was told "Take it up with Chrysler" and the service advisor gave me the phone number to Chrysler.
So much for repeat customer business. I wonder how valid thier lifetime warrenty really is for their cars..
I am pretty sure this will be the first and last Chrysler product my family will ever purchase..
What a same what a shame...

Re: My Xfire is in shop
Well, I decided to bring my Crossfire into another dealer to get their input on the engine clatter sound and it turned out very positive.
This was last Friday. Unlike the previous dealer, who I think just blew me off, the service manager took time to let me demonstrate to him what the issue was. He went to get the Crossfire tech out to listen to the clatter.. The Tech listened for a second and said. "Sounds like noisy lifters" and took the car to the back.
Got a call from the Service advisor a few hours later saying that the tech has taken the engine apart to diagnose the issue and is still analyzing.. but also that the Tech went ahead and ordered in new lifters and parts earlier in the day when I brought the car in just to have it ready if that was indeed tha cause.
That was Friday..
The dealer's service area clsoes on Saturday and Sunday, so I was suprised when the service manager called just now (Monday) and said that the car was ready to pick up. I asked him what was wrong and he said.. the tech replaced the lifters in the car and that was what was causing the noise.
Can't wait to pick it up and if indeed they did resolve the noise with replacing the lifters, I would rate the service and turn around time of this dealer to be excellent, and they would be my dealer fo choice for service and maintenance in the future.
I'll post back after I pick the car up later.
Oh.. the dealer is Helfman Chrysler River Oaks in Houston..

I would call and complain about the first dealership.
Re: My Xfire is in shop
Well, picked the car up from the dealer. According to the invoice, they replaced the lifters and tappets.
As for the clatter, it is less than before but if I listen very very closely, I can still hear it. Its now one of those things that if I don't think about I won't notice it, but if I do try to hear I can pick it up.. I'm satisfied now to chalk it up to the just the way this engine sounds..
I read alot of post about engine tick being normal for the Crossfire so I don't think its anything out of the ordinary.

Re: My Xfire is in shop
Do what my wife say's every time I think I hear a strange noise......turn up the radio.....women ! I would contact Chrysler for sure, and also take the work order to the first dealer and show the service advisor who blew you off the first time and tell the service manager your intentions.
Re: My Xfire is in shop
I can hear some slight ticking especially while in garage where sounds bounce off walls. But as soon as I put a load on the engine it disappears...Don't have any roughness, and she goes like a scalded doggie. Think any car with solid lifters will be a little noisey... This thing is made to go fast...
Re: My Xfire is in shop
this car has hydraulic lifters.
As for a clicking noise, there are numerous things that could cause this noise. Timing chain tensioners, lifters, plug wires, coils, injectors, etc.
The thing that concerns me is that you can hear it from inside the car while driving, which means that it is fairly loud indeed. I would still take agarden hose to it and see what you can do yourself to locate the source of the sound.
