Default What's this about?

I just purchased a 2005 Crossfire Limited for my wife to drive. First, let me say that this was the best purchase I could have ever made for a woman. However, I was wondering if I'm crazy or if it needs to go into the shop due to the following. I've noticed that the only way the power seats can be moved is if the door is open. Is this the way it's supposed to work or is there a short? Second, is there anyone out there that has what seems to be a "film" on the headlight lenses? If so, what did you do to get it taken off?

Congrats on your new xfire! The seats should move with the doors closed. And, there is a TSB for fog in the headlamps. It's very common.

Maybe the original owner put film on the headlights.

Could be. I didn't think of that. I haven't figure out why people put tint on headlamps. I want it as bright as possible.

I noticed the same thing on my '07 so I don't think it's a defect. Besides it's really hard to reach down there and adjust the seat with the door closed.

No, the film thing is a South Florida enigma in that it makes the headlights look as though there's a blurry tansluscent film on them.

Although I can reach down and get to the seat adjustments, I hadn't thought that perhaps the engineer might have designed it so that the door would have to be open due to a safety factor.

In my '04 coupe, my seat operates if the ignition is on and the doors are closed, but it does not work if the ignition is off and the doors are closed. But, it does work if the ignition is off and the driver’s door is open? I don't get the German logic on this one??

That's what I'm talkin' about...it makes no sense, but I needed to see if it was just me. Apparently, you're supposed to have your seats organized before you start it up and then just go with the same setup the rest of the way.

Blame it on the South Florida people. Where I am you can live your life and never speak a word of Engish. Si

As I said, in mine I can adjust the seat once the ignition is on and/or I am driving, but not with the ignition off and the doors closed! If I open the door adjusting is possible??

It does make absolute sense There are two pockets bhind the seat that can be used to hold things (flat things). If you have the top open and the car locked, you don't want someone to be able to just reach in and move the seat forward and grab whats in those pockets. Thats why you can only move the seats with the doo ropen (meaning you have the key to unlock the door) or with the ignition on and the doors closed. Similar to the reason why they made the central locking button deactivated once the engine is turned off, so that it prevents someone from reaching in and unlock the doors and alarm when you park with the top down.

So, us coupsters have to suffer, because of you roadsters? Oh, it must be a carryover from the SLK since there were no Crossfire roadsters in the first model year?

I should think that not being able to drop the top in your Xfi on a spring day is punishment enough.

Drop tops are almost worthless for me in this neck of the woods. The weather only cooperates on and off for about 3 months. Then when it's good, it's usually so hot I need the A/C on. I've had a convertible and a T-top, and only used them a few times. Not really a fan of needing to pull a cap down around my ears so hard that it is difficult to see, and I feel sorry for the wife trying to keep her hair in place. As you can tell, I'm not a roadster lover. We all have our preferences, I guess.
Getting back on track, I still wish the power seat would work with the doors closed and the ignition off!

Of course the seats move with the ignition on and the door closed - so you can adjust your position on long trips.

They also work with the ignition off and the door open so you can adjust them before getting in. It's real handy if your short wife was driving the car and neglected - as usual - to move the seat back. It's also handy for moving the seat way up or way back for cleaning and detailing.

Wink Re: What's this about?

With those explanations (especially the one where the pouch is protected-hadn't thought about that, but it's a good one) I can see that I've got a problem that needs to be addressed. The only time the seats can be adjusted is when the car is in park and the door is open. Neither the passenger seat nor the driver seat moves if the car is moving. In regards to the headlight lenses, it appears that I'm the only one to have that "salty" looking film on them. Living in South Florida, I've seen lots of cars that have it. The dealership said that it is a mold of sorts which requires $149 to have a guy put on a special compound. I was hoping someone had an idea for a purchase down at the local Costco which would do the same for $1.49. Love the car because the wife love's the car and we all know when the wife loves anything it's good for us....
