If you find that formula pleeeease let me know. I took my wheels off today and scrubed and I still have those black dots. I think the black dots have won, I am giving up for now.

My wife just got rid of an old mesh sponge on a wooden stick. While she now thinks I go dumpster diving in our trash can, I found that this discarded tool/lost treasure does a great job cleaning wheels.

I hear you... The front wheels seem to get really dirty fast. My last attempt was with a vegetable brush.

Please see my post on detailing...I found some stuff for the black spots that won't come off right here in Ocala. Small company that sells only detailing products. Their Dreaded Red or Wheel Cleaner will make short work of that baked on stuff...

As for magical miracle cleaners, my dealer turned me onto one. I brought my car in over the winter with what looked to be rust on my rims, that no matter how hard I worked at through the winter and afterwards it would not go away, and I tried everything. Anyways I wanted to see if I could get the rims replaced, but the dealer called me back after having my car for a few hours and said they couldn't get the rims replaced because they cleaned them entirely. I doubted it, but when I got there the rims were spotless, they looked brand new. Anyways the stuff that they said they used but could not sell to me was called purple dragon, I have never taken the time to order it because I have been able to keep them clean since they cleaned them but here a website I found that sells the stuff.

You have to scroll down the page a little bit but its there.

Now for the past year once a month I simply jack up one wheel at a time and lay under the car and turn the wheel as I clean it on the inside just using a wet towel. Done. Looks fine.
I have contemplated what you suggest because i am so tired of black mess those front brake pads are making of my wheels. Your suggstion has now inspired me to do the same.

Now if only i can find some matching touch up paint......Grrrr!

ok you guys, you need to train your detailers a little more aggressively. My guys use a special brush and my wheels shine!

Seriously though, I bought a brush made for this purpose and it works very well.

I use a brush designed for cleaning motorcycle spoke wheels. (I use it on the bikes too, LOL) Got it at J&P Cycles, their P/N 910-221 works great.

I'm looking at that brush thinking its very similar to a brush used for cleaning glass baby bottles and that it can be purchased more conveniently and for allot less money.
