Who knows what that huge thing on the top is?
Who knows what that huge thing on the top is?
I have owned many convertibles over the years. I am stumped by my xfire thought. First of all, why is the front bow of the convertible top 8" thick? Second questoin is, what are the two rectagular plates in the front bow? They king of are where you might expect to find sun visors or something. I searched but couldn't find anyting. Any elp is appreciated as always.

I think that you can "pop out" those rectagular plates with a hammer and install cup holders.
I was viewer #82 and had to give you some kind of an answer even if it's pure BS.
Oh My God it just dawned on me someone might take me seriously.
Please do not hit those rectangular plates with a hammer!

OK. I realize I am probably not being very clear. Question 1. Why is the very front metal bar on the convertible top, the one that attaches to the windsheild at the top, twice the width of the top of the windsheild? I mean if you are going to really beef up on part or the other, why not beef up the part that is not removed? This brings me to Question #2. The obvious reason (using common sense) that this piece is so thick appears to be in order to accomodate these 2 large rectangular recesses (about 3 inches tall and 12" wide) into them and cover them with fitted metal plates. But what are the plates/recesses for? Thanks for at least responding, it is more fun to read silly repsones than noen at all.
Re: Who knows what that huge thing on the top is?
Karmann designed and built the top. Somebody send 'em an email and ask.
My guess on the thickness -- some partial roll-over protection. It would be cool to put some kind of sunglass holders or something in those squares, if they come out.
The Crossfire top is amazingly tight and well fitting. Was just looking at the Saturn Sky top and it looks like it's home made.
