A Happy X-Fire Day in BC Canada!
A Happy X-Fire Day in BC Canada!
My Crossfire passed both the Federal and Provincial inspection today and is good to go for registration!
I had the pleasure of driving it to and from which included a nice winding stretch of road.
The whiff of fresh oil mystery was solved with the discovery of a leaking valve cover gasket . The mechanic says that because the car has so few miles it is likely the gasket dried out.
My battery is acting up however I think it may be due to evaporation. i topped it up. I also learned that engine heat adversely affects the life of a battery. There are insulative covers available to extend the life of your battery.
I found out that the difference between insuring it for pleasure versus regular use is only a few dollars cheaper. Currently, I'm looking at 1800.00/year for full coverage.
In BC you can apply for fleet insurance if you have 5 vehicles insured yearly. this would include a licenced boat trailer. This can equate to as much as a 70% discount. I have a boat trailer, truck and two cars....A cheap utility trailer would make me elligible for fleet insurance. One downside may be if you get in an accident it will affect the premiums equally on all of the vehicles in the fleet....
Now if only Spring would come early!

Re: A Happy X-Fire Day in BC Canada!
Just curious . . what did they make you change on your car ??? I have been thinking about getting one from the USA and have met with limited success finding out what they will change. I hear it is basically the energy absorbtion foam behind the bumper fascia . . and that is about it ??? True ??
Thanks,
Mark
Thanks,
Mark

5 of six bumper absorbers need to be changed. (Excluding center front) The cost is 542.60 + Tax + installation
510 - 2547,2545,2556,2554,2553-AA
In addition, the light module needs to be replaced to accomodate daytime running lights. (The tail lights are illuminated and front lights on low beam while the car is running) Part # 5098639AA (260.00)
I swapped my US module str8 across for a Cdn module, and installed it myself.
You will be responsible for GST, air excise tx (100.00) RIV fees (206.70), inspection fees. Although the car is manufactured in Germany, you do not have to pay import duty. (saving of 6%)
Use the search bar to locate the threads "importing a car" You can determine the learning curve and some of the frustration I went through importing the car to Canada.
CDN Car lots are full of US vehicles. In many cases I dont think (heard) they play by the same compliance rules. Stealerships provide false compliance information costing some Crossfire importers 3000.00 In my opinion, I think it's set up to discourage the avg public from benifiting from the purchase of a fair priced vehicle south of the border.....Don't be discouraged. Do your homework, and learn from the experience of others in this awesome forum
I look forward to seeing you on the road.
Cheers!
