Hi everyone, I was wondering how to remove the shifter **** off the shifter. My car is an automatic. Does it screw off or pull off. I was afraid to try until I asked you guys. I have found a new shifter I would like to replace it with. Thanks much. Patty

 

Hi Patty, the answer to your question is BOTH. The bottom most ring under the **** itself turns (|I believe) clockwise. Its easiest to grab it (because the aluminum is so slippery) with rubber gloves of some sort and that way you'll also avoid scratching it. Once the ring is completely unscrewed it will drop down to the base of the shaft. Then give a good pull up on the **** and it'll come right off. Reverse the process with the new one and you're in business. Good luck.
