About to give up - Top will not go down
About to give up - Top will not go down
I purchased an '05 roadster w/3k miles in July and so far it has been to the dealer 7 TIMES to get the top to retract, the last time it worked was in September. I've called Chrysler, the dealer lied and got the run around, either the "case worker" was on vacation or changed what they told me. Chrysler informed me that the dealer could not "fix the problem" if I did not take the car in to be fixed after telling me to wait for a call from the dealer when the factory rep would be there.
So for the 7th time I took the car in, told them I did not want to see the car until it was fixed and give me a rental car until it was. 5 days later they call to say they ordered parts and pick up the crossfire till the parts came in. I picked up the car, now the trunk will not open (they say its due to parts malfunction) and the radio didn't work (now does after turning it off and on several times).
This is what has me concerned, they are going to replace the hydraulic pump, to me this doesn't seem to be the problem, when the top went down, it went down fine, it's just the initialization that seemed to be the problem. I learned to jiggle the rear divider sensor till I was blue in the face and now I can't get to it.
The service rep treats me like he doesnt even know what a crossfire is and "I guess since they are a Chrysler we have to work on them". A call to the service mgr and we were assured they would work on the car and we should have not been told that they don't work on Crossfires. It's funny they don't ask me to fill out their 5 star rating cards anymore. After 15 Chryslers over the years I think I'm done with them.

No problems with mine either. Except when I first got it, I had a helluva' time getting the partition switch engaged every time.
But with the trunk lid non-operational, that would seem pretty hard to troubleshoot. Do you know if this trunk lid problem is a pneumatic or mechanical error? If it's the air system, I think they pinched a line or sumthin'.
I'll help if I'm close,
best of luck

A. I'm in the middle of no mans land in West Texas
B. They have been excellent including my 98 Dodge Cummins, 112K and has never been to a dealer for anything
C. The neighboring city dealership is owned by the same company, Lithia
D. You can hear the trunk unlock as usual, but the latch is loose and of course it wont open
E. They have replaced the partition switch and the top switch itself
F. They said it give them an error code of "motor overuse", I looked up the codes in the service manual and saw no such code
Friday I'm suppose to take it in and let them break it some more I guess, I really wonder how they are going to get into the trunk.

When you turn the handle to release the top do your windows go down or do they still stay in the up position? Sometimes I have this problem with mine when it cool outside, I believe there is a sensor in the top of the windshield inside the trim that could be the problem. Maybe an adjustment?

If you can get to Denton, without too much trouble, I can highly recommend (as of Mar 07 when I left Texas) Huffines..only the Denton store, as that is where I purchased my XFire and had it serviced for almost three years. They also serviced our Jeep, which I did not buy from them. They still treated it as if they had sold it. Great service (techs know the Crossfire), and Parts departments.
You might also check into the Texas Lemon Law, since you have had it back 7 times.

The windows do go down as normal, push the switch and you get the endless beep. I was going to try the allen wrench trick with the rear top latch to see if it was to tight or something, but the dealer broke the trunk, so I couldn't try it.
I went out and bought the deluxe warranty on it to cover everything, I really wish I could take it to the Benz dealer around the corner, they could probably fix it in 5 mins.
I've considered taking it to the Dallas area to have a look and I just happen to have a kid that lives in Denton, so thanks for the tip.

Regarding the trunk lid, you might check out part # 5140949-AA, Rod Assembly 23018026. It is the "Child Safety Trunk Release Cable/Lever Assembly". It is a VERY flimsy part that broke twice on my Crossfire. It releases the trunk after you squeeze the handle. Chrysler upgraded the part, according to my Service Tech, after so many broke; it is stronger now. You open the inside of the trunk lid to get to it.
Re: About to give up - Top will not go down
Hi all - new to the forum. Bleu Chocolate, I feel your pain! I've had my Crossfire since since March 2006 and still love it. However, I have had some top issues as of late..... I needed a new top latch and that started the madness. Since that repair over a month ago my vehicle has been in the shop (3) times (in a rental car over for 18 days at one point!). Unfortunately, the changing of that latch changed the 'seal' of the top to the car. Since then I have had an incessant leak at the driver side window. The dealership has tried everything from weatherseal at the windows to a NEW TOP. Today, with the rain, the leak returned. Anyone?????
