Default Passenger Side Mirror Snapped Off

Don't even ask...my passenger side mirror is hanging by the "threads" and the mirror part came out of the snap enclosure...rainy...zero visibility...pole out of nowhere...backing out...anyway...how I managed to angle the mirror so it hit at the seam of the mirror and not scratch the car doors or bumper, God only knows...

Any idea what the cost would be or somewhere where I can get one that would work without robbing a bank?

Thanks, all!

a new complete mirror assembly is $184 list price from chrysler and is pre-painted (a plus imo) from the factory.

i don't believe you can buy mirror parts separately... from what i understand its a complete unit.

hope this helps.

Thanks, Andrew...it's weird...the mirror is actually intact...but the bolt that holds it on snapped..inside...don't know if I can simply replace the bolt piece? I guess I'll have to check with the dealer...It's such a strange mishap...I am not too upset with the price of the pre painted part...that's less than what I thought...

Thanks, Andrew! How are things with you??? I haven't been on-board for a bit...

Happy New Year to all!

Anyone replace a mirror and is it a DYI job or a dealer task? Thanks again everyone!!!

In fact, initially, it looked like all I needed to do was pop the mirror back on and it would have been good to go,...so the mirror itself looks like it's fine...no scratches on the outside or and the mirror is fine, though it snapped out of the plastic...think all I need to do is snap it back on, but it was raining and I didn't want to fuss with it...

Argh...hate this stuff...

Golfergal,

If it was simply a bolt head or bolt snapping, you are in luck and any dealer worth their salt should be able to unmount the mirror assembly, replace the broken bolt and then replace the mirror assembly in no time. You may want to check with a body shop as they probably repair these things a lot.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

www.makeitmopar.com has them for $135 to $138 depending on the color but I didn't see aero blue as a color choice. But if you call them I'm sure you can get that color.

Now we're talking...I just don't know enough about how to describe the problem and my husband was very non-chalant about the mishap...in fact, I had to duct tape the mirror in place while I drove home, and he hasn't even removed the tape to check it out...Me, OTOH, have been searching high and low for a mirror...but thinking I might not need a replacement for it afterall...

I will take some pics and see what you guys think...my husband, (good guy and all) is not much help when it comes to anything car related.

Try LKQ, it's a national auto salvage co. You might just get lucky. Good Luck.

The mirror works mechanically...the wires are still attached, obviously...there's a metal piece that broke off that holds the mirror upright...that's what snapped. I dont' believe I need to replace the mirror aftrerall...I need the the attachment piece and will take it to a body shop or my dealer..need an oil change anyway. Considering there is no external damage at all and I am under warranty, maybe they'll replace the bolt under warranty. I'm not going to volunteer information, in otherwords...

See what they say...

Good luck and provide us with feedback on the dealer response.

The small circular piece snapped off...mirror is working fine other than hanging by the wiring! Duct tape is NOT my style!

How in the heck did this snap off without showing some type of external damage to the mirror, glass etc...Looks like those two "rusty" screws can be removed and I can get to the part that needs to be replaced...huh? Husband thinks we can maybe reattach the piece that snapped off with some type of adhesive or weld..I know nothing of this and would not want to take my chances...

Thanks, MM...I am happy to be back...I've been here all the time...just laying "low"...

Happy New Year to my Crossfire Family!

You could try Quick steel it works great I've used it to fix many things. Walmart and parts stores have it . Cheaper than a new mirror if it works.

They make them to break that way for safety for people walking and less damage to your car.

Golfergal,

Going by your picture, I'd say the mounting neck itself broke free. I'm also betting there's another piece that broke. As stated by robby363, they design them this way so they won't injure someone or do more damage to the door if they are hit. The part that broke, from what I see is NOT replaceable, unless you can find a damaged assembly at a salvage yard, but most likely this is what will be broken on those too. Also, from your picture, it looks as though the shaft that pulled out had some sort of lock on it to keep the whole mirror in place, this may be the other 'part' that broke.

I was hoping I would have to say this, but...

I'd suggest getting a new mirror and having it installed at the dealer. It's worth it to have a new mirror assembly.

To be safe, ask the dealer if they have repair parts for the mirror assembly... I'm betting they don't.

I will have the dealer look at it...yes, it's the "neck" of the mirror that did break off, so they will have to assess the process to repair. The few Mopar sites that I've found that carry the mirrors do not have listed the Aeroblue color. They don't even have any "primed" in stock...but, I've not checked with my dealer. I'm bummed...but, thankful that I didn't side swipe the entire right side...

I want to send the bill to my boss...he's the one that installed the rebar in the parking lot without letting us know...it blended in with the background...it was dark, rainy, and the small back window of my car didn't help either...

Anyone install a back up camera? I'm thinking that 's not a bad mod to have...

GG

Update: I called several part places and most could get me a side mirror for around $130.00 or so. A Mopar dealer could get me an Aeroblue one to match my car for $175.00...the others would have to be painted...

So, I call my local dealer and ask if they could order me a mirror...The guy I talked to acted put out that I even asked....with a lot of silence and me asking if he was still on the line with me, he declared that he couldn't find any "price" on the unit and that it might take months for Chrysler to even get back to him on such a request for this part as it's not uncommon for them to be very slow to get parts "if they can even get me one". I was pi$$ed, to say the least. So, I asked, "You're telling me that it might be months before you know if a part is available and cannot tell me what a price would be?". He then said, "No, I am saying that I don't know what it might cost and with a situation like this, it might take months....or, (he hesitated), it might take just a day or so....

WTH???? I mentioned that I had been contacted by several Mopar and parts suppliers and on-line the side mirrors are available, and he acted like I was full of it.

I know if my husband had called, he'd have been far more polite...I have an appointment to have my oil changed on Tuesday, and they are going to take a look at it...I'm not going to volunteer how the mirror was broken...I'll let them figure it out...jerks!

I am going to wait replacing it until it's looked at by their service department. The dealership is under new ownership, and I'm withholding judgment on their customer service until I see how my appointment goes.

In the meantime, my mirror is being held by duct tape...It's like I have my makesup smeared all over my face when I'm driving around....it just kills me!

Cool Re: Passenger Side Mirror Snapped Off

GG...I will check with my dealer (they never have issues with ordering parts) and see if they can order it. You can more than likely pay via credit card and they will ship it to your house and then you can have it installed by your dealer.
