I think that instead of putting a trailer on the car, I may pu the car on a trailer, and pull it there (the dragon, etc...) in my van, that solves the problem of another seat too.

I left my exhaust original and mounted two hitch assemblies one on either side of the exhaust. I have two tie bars that are pinned in place like a normal that are bolted to a cross bar with a center mounted ball. The only things I have left for the hitch are to bye 2, 3/4" bolts for the cross member and painting the crossmember. It is very clean, not in the air flow and nearly unnoticable when not installed. I even reinstalled the plastic shields on the bottom. I'm looking for two little plastic incert caps to close the hitches when not in use and a small trailer to modify with a contico box a wheel rack.

I too would like to see details.

I posted a link earlier http://www.bushtec.com/ they have a triler that looks like the crossfire, and claim that they can match any crossfire paint. not cheap though, and no they don't have a hitch (be in their interest to develop one though)

Ok, it's raining so no paint on the parts yet. But I did put everything together for some photos and added them to my gallery.

You stole my idea! Nice job, I hope it works out for you. Those two black receivers should be nearly invisible when not being used. James

Gentlemen and/or ladies,

I'm normally a pretty passive person and figure that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and therefore keep mine to myself however:

I ride a Honda Goldwing with which I pull a trailer on some rides. I have a trip to go on in a couple of weeks where I need to haul some explosives back home and legally those must not be hauled inside an occupied vehicle and so a trailer is needed. Rather than to take my Durango and 8x10 trailer, I thought it would be convenient to put a hitch on my CF and pull the motorcycle trailer behind it. This led me to a Google search which lead me to this thread.

I'm telling all this to provide an example that that there are legitimate needs for pulling a trailer with a CF but what compelled me to register on the site and make this post is that I've never seen such a gathering of snobs in one place as I have here. I am a member of other forums and on these forums we try to disperse information and help others where possible. If they are doing something unsafe, we will tell them it is unsafe and explain why. The member who started this thread was never accused of attempting to do anything unsafe, the majority of the replies simply accused him of being a moron. If this is representative of the CF "family", I think I'd rather get rid of mine than to be associated with such a bunch of self righteous snobs.

In conclusion, if anyone has come up with a hitch that does not require exhaust modification or cutting holes in the bumper, please let me know. I have the equipment to build one from scratch but I don't have time during the next two weeks to get it done.

Wildthang - Great first post, I think that you will fit in nicely with the new group of owners. I can't help you in the time that you have but what your looking for is posible to build yourself and is not that tough to do. There is nothing in the market to purchase and install. Check out this thread:

Pontiac Solstice owners have been fabbing and using trailer hitches for external cargo carriers. Long thread here. Mostly because their deck mount luggage carriers sueck. Personally, I'd never mount anything larger than this (just kidding!)

Thumbs up Re: Crossfire Trailer Hitch?

excellent! that is exactly what I need. Unless it is a major pita, I will probably completely remove it when not pulling the little trailer. Maybe I can get a break some time this week and I'll take a look at fab'n something similar. Thanks a bunch for the reply and the pictures.

Looks great. I've been following this for quite some time. My intrest is to do the two receiver boxes but also modify a dirtbike hitch holder. The ones that hold the bike perpendicular with the trunk. The two hitches would give it better stability from tipping from the standard straight single hitch.

So I am going to cut off the single hitch from the center of the dirtbike rack and put two on either side to line up with the two receivers. Can't we use two universal boxes that just have re mounting plate welded on top rather than the traditional tubular brace that's car-specific? Would you mind taking a few angles of pictures of your receivers mounted to the frame underside of the car? It would be much appreciated!!

Trailer hitch? simply ditch the hatch and fit a fifth wheel to the trunk floor. Lets have none of these Mickey Mouse hitches lets have a man size hitch.

Back to intelligent responses. Enough from the Mickey Mouse Club!? Riiiiight. The above poster was right about the whole snob thing. Never have I encountered more sarcastic people in any car I have owned fourms.

Sarcasm is one of the free services offered here,

Sometimes you just have to take it as humor, as it is most certainly meant.

That aside...I myself see a use for a light duty trailer hitch of some sort.

And am happy to read anyones solution. Keep them coming

Stay classy, Magee! (Magoo?)

No I roll over trolls: They make a nice squishy POP!

Researched the Solstice/Sky line (Anything wrong with buying made in USA?) before rejecting it last year.

I do agree with some of the veteran posters on this thread ... there is a lotta lip here.

DriveThru - I think you may have an issue with your plan, if I understand what your saying. The Crossfire is max loaded at 450lbs, this includes the passengers and luggage. By hanging your dirtbike on the back of the car you are nearing max load and putting the wieght on a lever arm against the suspension. It's your call but I would recomend a small trailer so that only 30lbs or so is transferred to the suspension. I have no information on universal boxes, but it sounds like it will work. There is no real frame to speak of, but plenty of room to work when installed your hitch. I am out of the area for the time being, but will post some better photos when I return later in the month. Go Navy!

Blksrt,

I had a chance to crawl under the CF today, then I came back and looked at your pics. There's not a heck of a lot under there to attach to, a couple of bolting points near the rear end but not much near the bumper. Can you post a pic of your attachment points or maybe just describe how you attached the unit to the car.

Thx

I just asked that a couple posts up. He said he would post them soon^

As for the tounge weight in regards to a dirtbike. The dirtbike is under 200 lbs which is the limit for a class 1 hitch. So me and the dirtbike with great would be under 400lbs total. Keeping under the 450 which I had already taken into consideration. Also want to use it for my 2 bike hitch mounts Thule bike rack. So I definately need the receiver box, whereas his setup is just about the 1 7/8" ball. But same concept as for the mounting under the XF.
