I've only had 2 issues with it.
1. This is really and issue with me. Early on, I'd accidently tap the stick left out of drive when I was starting the car and putting it in D. Now I gotten in the habit of tapping the stick right after I have it in D.
2. When downshifting/upshifting, there is a slight delay. Much like the throttle delay when accellerating. I'm sure this is by design. Silly me, expecting instantanious gear shifting.
I drove a Ford taurus rental that had the same delay... I guess it's so I can pretend I'm driving a standard

Even in the SRT this car certainly isnt the fastest on the road...I think of it as more of a cruising on an open hwy kind of car..No?
Bone stock the SRT6, as tested by Road & Track, runs 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.3. The Limited does the same in 6.4 and 14.7 respectively. Again, these are magazine times, but at least they are by the same magazine. Still, that's quite a difference. I have a modified PT Cruiser that has covered the 1/4 mile in 14.4 (time slips to prove it) and my Crossfire certainly doesn't feel significantly slower than that.

There are a few chip tuners out there that will definitely improve the performance of the non SRT6, but to bring one up to the same level would cost a pretty penny.

I will say that coming from the Miata to the Crossfire I had a bit of a learning curve with the throttle response. The Miata was very, very lively but the Crossfire's fly by wire throttle was bugging me at first. I considered a Sprint Booster but eventually adapted my driving style and now no longer see the need for one. I had no issues with throttle response on the road course at Buttonwillow in stock configuration, further convincing me I do not need the Sprint Booster. I do want the chip tuning though!!!

I found this link http://www.inmotionusa.com/obdflash.htm

It would be interesting to know how well it works....We could share the program.

I can't imagine owning a sports car, especially a two seater convertible, and having an automatic. I would have loved the SRT6 if it came with a stick and would have popped for the additional money, but for a couple seconds to 60 and +8 mph top end (how many SRT6 drivers have ever taken it to the governor?) it wasn't worth it. And I haven't opened mine up all the way - only to 140 last year and 135 this fall.

Yes, it is a PITA to drive in traffic. I commute a lot to Detroit and always end up in some stop and go, but I worry more about some clown rear-ending me out of carelessness than a sore left leg. But the ability to actually drive the car and choose the gears makes it all worth while, especially when it wails through the gears. More good news, at 26,000 miles the shift from 1st to 2nd is either wearing in or I finally learned the proper groove to make it slide into gear. The other gears are just fine.

My vote: STANDARD.

I just got a notice from our Provincial car insurance. It appears they have found yet another way to jack our premiums regardless of our accident history. As of 2008 they will penalize us for speeding tickets obtained in 2007 and then retro two years previous.....I'm suddenly feeling much better about the slow Roadster Limited.

LOL!! I'm certainly not denying that the SRT6 is faster, but I think I got to actually "dance" with my baby more than you did that weekend!!!

Keep in mind that a true "speeding" ticket is for travelling at a speed greater than the posted limit. This means even a Kia can get you in trouble, and when you consider that even the slow Roadster Limited is capable of 150mph well, you see where I'm going!!

So tell me was this a clunky shift that occurred? I've been in standards where I hardly had to use the clutch after first. It was strictly dependent on the RPM....And then i've been in standards where every gear was clunky..Another thing, how heavy is the clutch pedal..short stiff, long?.......You may wonder where I'm going with this however I may just purchase a coupe > Black with red/black interior. If i do I think it has to be a standard.

I comed to the conclusion after 1000 miles......if you rev to 2500-3000, there is no balkeyness in 1st or 2nd gear....it needs to be rapped out!

I test drove a manual roadster. Not enough leg room for me. When I let out the clutch I had to tilt my leg to the side to miss the steering wheel.
Luckily I wanted a SRT anyway - that seemed like a good excuse not to get the Limited with 6 speed (even though the salesman assured me that model was "almost" as fast as a SRT )

I must admit, the thought of driving a standard excites me.

It would be interesting to learn your opinions and share in your driving experience, Auto vs. Standard

Cheers!
I tried a 6 spd coupe as the first XFire I drove. But, the car just didn't have a slick enough shifter for me (but my experience goes back to 4 spds with Hurst shifters). It was balky and there seemed to be a lot of clutch travel to me. The next XFire I tested was a 5 spd auto and I immediately felt much more at home in the car. So, based on that very limited comparison, I went with the auto. When I bought my second XFire (roadster), I went with an auto.

If I were driving a pony or muscle car from days gone by....it would be a four speed, no doubt about it. But I am not, so the XFire auto just feels right to me. To each his/her own.

The new 370Z has an optional feature called "SynchroRev Match" that blips the throttle for you during downshifts.....I think I prefer to just use my foot.

I would have to agree. That would be more annoying than the current throttle lag.

Open road, Interstate, I'll give it to the SRT hands down. Even with the auto. But a few fella's, even an SRT or two, had trouble keeping up with me at the Dragon. There simply is no comparison on a twisty, reverse banked, switchback ,set of turns than the control you get with a clutch. Even with the clunky shifter we have.

I would love to have 300 hp but I doubt it would have made me much faster there.

Out on the Turnpike, that's another story.

roadster with a stick

i love love love love love love love love my 6-speed. I always get a kick downshifting into the parking lot of the high school (i'm still 16).

Also, everyone's blown away by the fact that I'm the only kid in town that can drive a stick. Which is kool haha.

Yeah, I remember being 17, one of the like..2 kids that could drive a stick, and worked my *** off for an srt-4... so much fun, but i'd be careful about hotrodding around the parking lot, i've seen a couple of wrecks happen that way, especially since you're up north, you know what i mean..

I wish I had the automatic.....too much traffic when going to work. Standard is fun on the weekends when joy riding.

I was stuck in the mountains of Chattanooga with a manual in bumper to bumper traffic, stop-and-go... it never bothered me. How much harder is it? With a clutch you push it in and out to move... with an auto you push the brake in and out to move... lol. Ya, you have to use your left leg... it is good for the brain! Only in the mountains I put it in neutral and just used the brake... like an auto! Good thing we were going down.

I almost bought a manual, but I ended up with an auto. I am glad, because I am too old & lazy to drive a manual as a daily driver. lol

Talking Re: Automatic vs. Standard

I use my auto more in the manuel shift mode than the straight auto. I even get in my other cars and catch myself trying to push the shifter Left or right. This auto trans is a all together different driving experiance. If i have both my hands on the wheel making a corner. My wife does the up and down shifting. I was having to tell her when to shift, but now for the most part she knoiws when to shift buy watching the road. She" great.

As I've said before, if I was into drag racing, I would have jumped at a chance for a SRT6 with it's automatic.
But since I personally feel a real sports car needs a manual shift, to "feel" like a real "sports car", that's why I went with a 6 spd.
An automatic doesn't make it less of a "sports car", it just makes it "feel" like less of a sports car. IMO.
