My wife and I are considering buying a new 2006 Gold Roadster with heated leather seats, GPS navigation, etc. We would be interested any on opinions or experiences with this model from current owners of the car.

IMO you can't go wrong at the price they're going for these days. Plus, you will be getting a new color for 2006. Check the threads for the good and the bad. The worse is the lack of support from Chrysler and the fallout that goes with it from the dealer service departments. Getting good service is not its strongest asset, Part availability may also become a real headache in the future.
I would do it all over again, the car is great and comes with some exclusivity.

You will be driving Mercedes quality at Miata prices. Every time I wash mine I marvel at the build quality in the small details and the gorgeous lines and curves of the design. Besides the quality and design is certainly the exclusivity. You don't see yourself coming and going. Certainly current market prices are an even bigger plus. I thought it was a steal at $36K + tax compared to its competition (Z4, 350Z, S2000, Boxster, SLK, Audi TT). But at $26-27K your competing with Miatas and Skys/Solsti and thats no competition. Maybe they've got more expansive aftermarket sources and better high performance potential but if your looking for a classy ride more in the vain of a Mercedes SL this is it and you can steal one from what we hear. Best of luck with your decision but as far as I'm concerned its a no brainer.

 

Have had my '05 Roadster Ltd. for 2 week now, - You have to do this car! You can read all the reviews, most of them trash the space and cup holder - and then speak about what a cool car it is. don't listen to the negatives - this is a fun car! Haven't had this much fun since my '74 Alfa convert. '74 Alfas didn't have cup holders and can remember the ride - I don't think they had shocks either. You can get a Audi/BMW/Merc/Boxer convert and be like everyone else or you can do this car and just have some fun.

I don't regret buying mine, I love the car. As you can read in numerous posts on this site don't waste any extra money on the NAV option. If the car you like comes with it, get the car, however the NAV option without a map isn't worth it. IMO.

 

Get it...don't hesitate...and I don't mind the Nav at all. It's worked for me countless times and got me to where I needed to go perfectly. I would prefer a map, but it's nice to hear the directions and keep my eye on the road...

DO IT! I love mine. And I like the GPS. I have a Garmin in my other car and I like the factory set in the XF just as well (but a little more fiddley to program). Anyway before you buy, check out the prices at Steve White Motors in Hickory, NC (828) 464-3458. In addition to what they have on their web site, they found me an automatic 2006 limited roadster for $28k.

 

I fell in love with the coupe at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show but the appearance of the roadster for 2005 made it a no-brainer. I have no regrets buying it new and it is a car that I intend to keep indefinitely. It's the long-waited replacement for my 74 TR6 that I drove into the ground years ago and regret not taking better care of. This baby lives under a car cover in the garage and will never see winter roads.

Go for it and enjoy it. Think of it as the Bricklin or the Delorean of the future, too.

You'll also enjoy all the envious looks you'll get. It is a distinctive and unusual looking car that attracts attention.

 

I dumped a beautiful 1999 Mazda Miata for a 2005 Crossfire Limited Roadster less than a week ago - already I know it was a brilliant move on my part. Yes, they are very different cars but the Crossfire better meets my needs, wants and desires. Uh, as those relate to automobiles that is.

 

BUY IT!!! You won't regret it!

 

Hey Goldwing , I can't believe another TR6 fan here with a Crossfire now. I had a new '73 when I graduated college and I've been looking for another for the last 15 years or more. Its the only car I liked as much if not more than the XF but thats with 34 years clouding my memories of the problems (actually only one problem). Were you the one selling a TR6 recently in Hemmings or on Ebay? I was looking at both those websites as I always do and on the driveway with the TR6 that was for sale was an XF. I guess the two cars strike a similar chord with the same owner. Very interesting.

 

I love my 2005 roadster! It's a great attitude adjuster! You will LOVE it! I forgot to add, you're getting a Mercedes car with a Chrysler skin, it doesn't get better than that!

 

I must concur with the others. Recently, I traded my 2003 BMW 330 convertible for a Crossfire coupe and I still enjoy it every day. To reiterate some of the other responses, the cup holder is very weak and I am having a very difficult time finding performance upgrades (this may not be an issue for you). On the other hand, I see BMW convertibles on the road every day. That is not so true with the Crossfire and I still get great performance. The only other complaint comes from my girlfriend. She has a very difficult time seeing out the back of the car. I think it just takes some getting accustom to the mirrors and the small rear window.

By the way, I also looked at the previously mentioned Audi’s, Porsche’s, Pontiac’s, etc. and still chose the Crossfire. The bang for the buck is tough to beat. Hopefully, it will outweigh the Mercedes Benz maintenance cost and still provide MB reliability and quality.

Tefwing, Over the years I have had a GTO convert, 2 Alfas, MB 280SL, Olds 442 and a Audi Cabriolet - all convertibles - and the Crossfire is a great collection of all of them. Ask your dealer about a bumper to bumper warranty, Chrysler offers them, my dealer thru it into the deal. The Crossfire has enough MB parts in it to make it $$$ to fix. Crossfires are great to look at and a blast to drive. You won't regret it - Just do it!

 

You will regret the service from the dealership. It's a masochist dream!

 

Are the responses getting redundant yet? I got my Blue Xfire Roadster last May. It's my second convertible, and the top is much more solid than my old Eclipse Spyder. She's quick, corners great, looks great, and is basically everything I wanted in a car. Doesn't hurt that people keep telling me what a beautiful machine she is, either.
