Looking to purchase a XF Roadster in the DC area, few questions?
Looking to purchase a XF Roadster in the DC area, few questions?
Hi!
I'm looking to purchase a Crossfire Roadster, I live in Maryland, right outside of Washington, DC.
I was wondering if any of you had any experience with any of the dealers around here, and/or suggestions to a good one to deal with.
I looked at a roadster yesterday at the Rockville Jeep/Chrysler dealer... they had 3 in stock, 2 limited and 1 special edition base.
My questions boil down to this.
Are the dealers generally ok with transferring stock? I see in VA there are several dealers with MANY in stock, but it's a pain to buy in VA because they won't do the reg/titling for you at the dealer.
2nd, if anyone knows, what is the best service dealership in the DC area for crossfires?
Some of them have some pretty good deals. I see a few new 05's as well, that are still available. They are listed as used, but with >30 miles.
I'm not sure if I should go new or used at this point, as there seems to be a lot of good deals on new ones right now.
Thanks!
Charlie

But the used one if you want all the little quirks worked out by the previous owner (you pay way less too). Buy the new one for the sheer satisfaction that you are the only owner of that car. Or just buy two Crossfires. They look great in the garage together.

Thanks for that link... I'm looking for a manual, though. I've been driving an auto lexus for the past year or so, and I can't get over how much I miss stick shift.
There are many super low mileage used cars available here. I'll have to check some of them out.

I purchased mine used from DARCARS in Rockville (previously Courtesy). Salesman was Travis and he is great. I haven't had any experience with service yet for my XF but they have been excellent with my Sebring Convertible and Pacifica.
During my XF search, I found that the dealers were ok with a transfer between the same dealers i.e. all the DARCARS will transfer with other DARCARS. I don't think you will get the "best deal" with a transfer between DARCARS and let's say PASSPORT (if they will do it at all). That being said, PASSPORT down Rt. 395 in VA seems to carry the largest selection. My experience was that once they came down to a certain price that was it, even when I walked away. They called me the next day and offered another XF for the same price as the one I was looking at (different color) but wouldn't budge any more on the price.

great, i actually talked to travis yesterday. great guy.
that's good to know. i expect to be able to get a good deal, but honestly an '06 limited for 26 is a great deal, even before they come down.
i feel like i *might* be able to get a better deal with passport, but it may not be that much better considering that i'd have to drive down there several times, and deal with titling, inspection and registration myself, when darcars is 5 mins from my house.
i'm also looking at the cadillac cts. hopefully i can drive both this weekend.
drastically different cars, i know, but it's a big jump to go to a 2 seater convertible as your daily.

Re: Looking to purchase a XF Roadster in the DC area, few questions?
I have to tell you that I do NOT use my XF as my daily commuter; I drive the Pacifica. It's much more comfortable, has Sirius, is larger (safer) in the DC traffic, etc. My XF is my fun car and I drive it one or two evenings a week and on weekends. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my XF but I would not use it as my commuter car. Although I only drive to work 3-4 days a week (25 miles one way) I do have to go to business meetings, parking garages, metered street parking, etc. and I just don't want to use my XF for that.
Re: Looking to purchase a XF Roadster in the DC area, few questions?
i'm lucky, i have a backwards commute, from bethesda to gaithersbug, so no traffic, and my job has a nice garage.
it's a tough call though. i'm going to keep it down to a test drive between the XF and the CTS. I've not driven either.
i feel like the maintenance on the CTS might end up being a little less, but I'm not sure.

I'm in Bethesda, too. I also backwards commute out to VA but in the evenings the backup from 66/Tysons around the Beltway is stop-and-go, mostly stop. It's not even worth me taking my XF and I never have since I got it 2 months ago.

Hi Charlie, I got mine at the same place when it was Courtesy and so far so good. I've had it serviced twice and had the fan recall done as well as a lid lock repair and they did fine with it. I have mixed feelings about DAR. We had huge problems with their Toyota dealership in Silver Spring, that made me very reluctant when DAR was the only one back in '01 that could get me a PT Cruiser in the area. I got that out at Fairfax Chrysler and I have to tell you they were one of the best dealerships I've ever dealt with. The mechanic let me sit and watch them work on my car (this was on a Saturday).
The guy I bought my car from was a friend of my son's. He worked there about 3 months and I was lucky, he got me a great deal before he got fired.
I did notice a few weeks back when I had mine in for service one of their sales people was a bit pushy trying to get me to buy one of the cars you mentioned. I had to ask him why I needed a new one when mine only has 4,500 miles on it? Then he tried to sell me a PT Cruiser. Having been down that road twice, I politely excused myself and went to the waiting room to pass the time.
Good luck with the purchase.

i've looked at a 300 there before... i know who the pushy guys are there.
since travis has gotten good feedback, i'm sticking with him.
i'm going to look at a coupe too, that's *slightly* more practical.
too many choices!
