Craigslist Response on brake pad installation
Craigslist Response on brake pad installation
I decided to send a few inquiries out on installation of my Rotex Brake pads on Craigslist. I had several return emails and just received this "odd" response.
What do you all think of this???
Dear Golfergal,
Thank you for the detailed instructions regarding the proper method required to change brake pads. And the tool list... priceless.
But alas, I never, as a rule, install customer supplied parts. Especially brake components. In fact, any respectable mechanic will also scoff at said proposal. Nevertheless, the planet seems overrun with lackluster mammals willing to work for 15 minutes for 15 dollars, so you should have no trouble finding **** erectus with purple rag in back pocket. Then again, I cannot imagine any brake work taking only 15 minutes. If those sensor wires get damaged your ECM--Electronic Control Module, will flash a check engine light on the dash. Then again and again, disregard my last tirade. Brake work should be done by only the most caring of mammals.
Did you buy this car from a dealer? It would seem they would cover this. Do you do a lot of stop and go driving? Sometimes, taking the car out and really heating up the brakes can burn any residual material that may be stuck to the rotors; calipers; hardware.
Hope this helps.

Re: Craigslist Response on brake pad installation
Too bad you are not down here because I know of two that would do it in a heart beat! Parts are parts, regardless of who orders them! That schmuck would have probably ordered the same pads based on your request and then charged you more to make a profit!!! Hence is dumb comment...
I'm lucky down here - we have so many European cars that we have tons of body shops & mechanics that actually advertise the services they offer on many cars. But in saying that, I know of two that I would go to.
I have a mechanic across the street from me told me that if I supplied him parts and instructions, that he'd do it for me (I talked to him after your problems trying to find someone in your area). In talking some more, he told me that eventually there will not be many mechanics that will know how to work on these cars as they slowly go away and that he'd love to be known as one that does (preferred Crossfire mechanic status?).
I also have a European Motors shop in Tampa that offers this service, too. Plus, they are a preferred Crossfire tire installation location. This shop happens to also be where players of the Tampa Bay Buccs go to when they want mods done to their BMW's, Mercedes, Porsches, etc... and when he realized that my engine is a Mercedes SLK, he made sure to let me know that he would gladly take care of me if I ran into any problems down the road with anything on my car. Would probably cost a pretty penny due to their existing clientele but at least I'd have a fall back.
I'm sorry you are having so many problems in getting something so simple taken care of. Just shows how things are so different in other parts of the country.

Re: Craigslist Response on brake pad installation
Thanks, Sharon. Yes, it's more than frustrating. Even my dealer wanted to do unnecessary rotor work and charge me over $200.00. At this time, I'm sitting with the pads in my laundry room.
The Craigslist weirdo sent me this follow up email. No wonder auto repair people have such horrible reputations...This guy is truly a 'classic'...and not in a good way.
You must remember that 99.99% of all mechanical mammals have only one modus operandi and that is to ****** that hard earned money from your coiffeur and never think twice. Whereas I, the humblest, most sincere of all mechanical mammals is on a much higher and enlightened path to automotive rightlessness. My work is comparable to that of the ancient Romans - minus Nero.
Good luck with your simple malaise. I hope the victor remembers to re torque the lug nuts to 81 ft. pounds.
On a side note, I know this is not what you expected from your CL inquiry, but I have been wrenching for many years, and have developed a keen and somewhat skewed reality. Forgive my rantings. But know that I am right on all points. Always.
You seem nice.
