Chicago Downtown Lakefont Cruise - Saturday May 24th
Chicago Downtown Lakefont Cruise - Saturday May 24th
Hey guys I know there is a meet planned for Chicago, but that one involves the track as the meeting place itself.
I was wondering is anyone wanted to meet up in Chicago sometime around May in order to just hang out and cruise, possibly grab a bite to eat?
We did one last year with quite a lot of people, and it was fantastically fun!
Thoughts?
EDIT: Gary(valk) I know you love cruising around Lake Shore Drive, eh? eh?

re: Chicago Downtown Lakefont Cruise - Saturday May 24th
Sounds like a plan
Are you suggesting we meet in Chicago or out in the suburbs somewhere instead to do a cruise downtown together as we did last time ?

re: Chicago Downtown Lakefont Cruise - Saturday May 24th
I would venture to say cruising IN to chicago from bollingbrook(i think is where we met last time) would still be a great overall idea. This time I plan taking the whole day off from work/anything else that needs my attention and just hanging out with everyone.
Would you want to go grab food later in the cruise? Preferably at a place that has enough parking for around 15 Xfires hahahah.
Last time it was a blast, and we literally stopped everyone where we went, and instead of paying attention to the skyline like normal tourists they all looked at us like candy. Loved every minute of it.
I do want to make sure the weather is a nice 65 to 75 degrees though, so we don't have to worry about being cold and whatnot. I know some of the regulars from last time would love to have the top down in their convertibles. That didn't stop FP from going convertible even in 50degree weather last time lol

Well last time...YES , we met at Cheddar's in Bolingbrook for easy access to I-55 to head downtown together.
Stop #1 at the Museum of Science and Industry which is a good location to the south to get out, gather and then begin our run together going north on LSD (Lake Shore Drive )
Stop #2 at the Adler Planetarium.
This is also a great spot to park and gather for a group photo by the lakefront with the Chicago skyline behind us.
Then we can proceed north again on LSD to
Stop #3 at Montrose Harbor to once again gather for group pics again by the lakefront.
This LSD run covers nearly 14 miles of Chicago's beautiful lakefront from South of downtown to North of downtown
MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map
At that point in our day we need to head to lunch at a location to be determined that can accommodate a group of Crossfires for parking.
Now if we want to make this a more complete day out together we can all head to Navy pier and eat lunch there.
Several options for good food at Navy Pier.
Restaurants
Food Court
Parking is a bit steep at $25 but can provide enough parking for ALL of us in the garage at Navy Pier.
Then as we did last year we enjoyed a sunset cruise on Lake Michigan.
There are also earlier cruise times if sunset is to late for anyone.
Usually you can buy tickets on location for any of the cruise times.
This is my idea but I'm open to other suggestions and of course we can never predict the weather for these GTG
Also last year lunch was mid afternoon so hope that is OK
Gary

re: Chicago Downtown Lakefont Cruise - Saturday May 24th
If you guys are allowing non-Chicagoans to attend, I may be able to make it. I'll keep an eye on the thread and head over Friday if I'm clear on the weekend you end up choosing.
May also be over there 4/26 for a Challenger GTG at Portillos in Downers Grove.
Think this Midwestern snow will melt by April/May?
