13th Annual Fall 2019 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 3 - 6
Re: 13th Annual Fall 2019 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 3 - 6
I am planning to leave Aurora at 6am on Thursday October 3rd so ya might be ahead of me unless you can adjust your schedule
I often run about 10 over the speed limit and only stop for gas/food and bathroom all at once to avoid excess stops along the way
You also can contact me here via PM or on Facebook - I'd enjoy your company along the way

6AM is fine. figure 10 hours we'd be there by 5PM Eastern, 4PM our time. I'll PM you as we get closer but we could meet at a starbucks or something and go from there. 10 over is fine with me. Agreed, stopping just for fuel/food/bathroom only. You're speaking my language!
I booked a garden room which is fine for us.
Thanks!

FALL DRAGON UPDATE:
I talked to our contact at the lodge today and got a list of reservations - 57 rooms. At this point, there are no more rooms available. The lodge is not completely booked, but any vacant rooms are blocked by other groups.
At this point, we must wait until room blocks expire - most will expire on August 1. At that time, there will be at least a few rooms that come available, as well as some cabins.
If you want to lock in a place to stay before then, go to post 2, and look for someone who is driving alone (one name in their entry) and contact them to see if they would share their room.
There is also the campground and AirBNB -there are some accommodations surprisingly close to the lodge on AirBNB.
I emailed our contact just now to see if she can start a "Crossfires Wait List" where rooms could be taken automatically by our "waiters", I will let you know how that goes.

A couple days ago I and Jessie made our reservations at Fontana. We got a pool side cabana. Arriving Wed the 2nd in the evening, departing Monday morning.
My car is scheduled for the body shop in the next two weeks; Pull right fender back down and HOPEFULLY, all will be good so I can have the car back on the road by the end of May.
I was waiting for my car to be back from the body shop before posting my reservations here, but in view of Marks post above I thought it was best to get the info to you.
One way or another, with or without my limited, we will be there for the Fall Dragon.
Gettiing the car back on the road after my accident in the fall has taken a while as I have been doing all the work myself and making some "improvements" along the way. However, moving that front fender forward and down is more than I can do and requires body shop equipment and expertise. I really want to save this car, but time will tell. So >> two more for the Dragon!! See you all there.
PS. Those looking for rooms may try Tapoco Lodge. Jess and I have stayed there in the past and enjoyed the accommodations. It is very near the south entrance to the Dragon, about 8 miles from the Fontana Lodge.

pizzaguy & all,
Newbie here. 1st timer to this event. Looking forward to meeting folks and putting a face to a "handle". Booked a room at the Fontana Lodge (Garden Room). Thanks for the headsup Pizzaguy on documenting in detail this event (I'm sure other folks contributed to this...kudoos to you! Might be able to caravan down with others from my area. Noticed my neighbor Rick & Connie (Dicky46) are planning on going. Need to hookup with Rick and others in the area.
Jim & Mary, Clinton Township, Michigan, arriving Thursday late afternoon/early evening, tentatively departing Monday am. We're winging this and as we get closer, caravaning may change our arrival/departure dates. Will advise at that time.
Again, looking forward to meeting all you 'Fire enthusiasts.

Skylift Park / Skybridge Run - With drive to Gatlinburg - Friday and/or Sunday only
This new attraction might be of interest to some of our Crossfire folks - This attraction is new for this year !!
It is about a 2 hour drive / 75 miles from Fontana lodge to Gatlinburg
Gatlinburg can be a very congested area but this new attraction might just be worth the trip
I called and spoke with someone at the Skylift Park and was told that the Skylift ride is about 20 bucks per person to take you to the top where you can then walk across the suspension bridge with no additional cost
There are two parking lots nearby and parking can be 5 to 10 bucks a car but there should be space for a group of 15 to park fairly close to one another if we arrive mid morning.
Skylift park is centrally located in downtown Gatlinburg and about 75 miles from Fontana lodge
There are two different runs that we can use to take us into Gatlinburg from Fontana lodge
If this does become one of our runs it would be done on Friday and/or Sunday
The link below will provide you a little bit more information about the bridge etc
Take a look, Valk (Gary)

Valk,
Thanks for posting. That area is so picturesque with natural beauty all around. My brother lived over 20 years on Signal Mountain, Chattanooga, Tn so those mountains sure look familiar. Definitely could be on one of our scenic rides.
Again, thanks.
