Jane and I are leaving Wilmington Wed. with a stopover in Charlotte. Should be at lodge mid afternoon Thurs ---- timing depends on storm activity. Looking forward to our first.

Last minute need for a room? I know the lodge if full on Thursdaynight but I THINK Fri/Sat/SUn is ok.
This place is SUPER NICE and just down the road from us:
HISTORIC TAPOCO LODGE 828.498.2800 ? Tapoco Lodge Resort on the Cheoah River located in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, near Robbinsville, North Carolina on US129 just 2 miles south of the famous Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap
I am told that Cabins there are only $99 a night.
This place is SUPER NICE and just down the road from us:

You guys may have a little smoke to contend with - depending on weather and wind:
"Associated Press | MURPHY — The U.S. Forest Service says it plans to conduct a 1,700-acre prescribed burn in the Nantahala National Forest.
A statement from the forest service said the burn is scheduled for Wednesday on the Cheoah District in upper Nantahala Gorge area.
The goal of the burns is to reduce the amount of fuel on the forest floor. The burns will also restore fire adapted vegetation and improve wildlife habitat.
Motorists traveling on U.S. Highway 74 may see smoke. Information signs will be posted on the highway at both the east and west entrances of the gorge as well on U.S. Highway 28 at Stecoah Gap and at the Almond/U.S. 74 intersection. All prescribed burns follow smoke management guidelines to mitigate impacts to the public."
Be safe, and I hope to see you all in the fall.

I have been a licenced sawyer working with the forest service in the Cheoah district for 10 years.I have seen many of these burns and most of the time they go well.Sometimes they don't.The guys that work burns are good at what they do but the weather is a big factor.we should be fine,see you all Friday.

Left Ponte Vedra yesterday and dove to Atlanta for the night left Atlanta this morn and arrived at Fontana Village at 2:30. Was disappointed in the Room.
I had asked for the Lodge back in December and they gave me a room called Lodge Fireplace just behind the main Lodge.They are packed full for this weekend. Nice ride up here enjoyed the twisties......
750 miles since I left homeon the clock....
Pull into a gas station to top up and my sweet wife Trezi open her door and it hit the post by the gas pump and
of course it made a nice size dent in the door Didn't talk to her much for a couple of hours. Still a sore subject....
So Here we are where is everyone.
Dinner to night at the Hotel restaurant.Think a nice steak..........Wait'n on Ya'll

OUCH on the door!.. But don't worry a whole bunch over the room.. You don't go to the Dragon to enjoy the bed and drapes.. LOL. "Done right".. you'll see very little of it..

MARK THE LEAD EVENT PERSON SHOULD BE THERE BY 2 PM
Im leaving Illinois to get there ay 2 as well- so hoping travels go smooth... I feel for your dent-- my BAS ESP light came on and Im leaving in 8 hours--tech gurus felt it would not mess with bluzoom driving...... hoping... they are RIGHT ON!
Others will begin arriving between 5-9 pm on thursday! Mo ans Gill should arrive tomorrow during day too. See ya'll soon! Dee

My first time on the Dragon.. No ABS .. No BAS/ESP .. thinking the pump is shot on my coupe.. and we lived to tell about it..

Just had dinner at the Lodge was very good, wife had blacken chicken and veggies not on the menu I had the Pot Roast it was great. Nice wait staff and good food WE will have breakfast here tomorrow morn then a recon drive to Robinsville to locate the Catholic church and time from lodge for Sunday Mass.
Not worried about the dent maybe the Dent Doctor can take it out. The room" is large and the bed is hard and the pillows suck I'll sleep like a babyk tonight.

We "discovered" Tapoco Lodge last fall.. right around the corner from Deals Gap.
Just dined there Sunday evening.. but it will be on the do again list.

Our very own Chaplin Jonathan will hold services at the lodge on Sunday morning at 8:30am
We have even had 2 weddings held at the Dragon
