8th Annual SPRING 2015 - Tail of the Dragon GTG-April 3, 4, 5 - 2015
Re: 8th Annual SPRING 2015 - Tail of the Dragon GTG-April 3, 4, 5 - 2015
If you had fun on your first run, wait till fall and have fun with about 60 xf's.... and even more crazy drivers...but all in fun... crazy, not dangerous.
Mark, yeah, the Hellbender is fun for me, as I like to stretch it a bit, but there are a host of roads out there that are fun. Just never have time for them all in 2 days. So, hope to spend at least 4 days this fall...

Oh, DAMN! Thanks.
Thanks go out to:
1) The Fontana Lodge staff - who took very good care of an unprepared PizzaGuy.
2) Jonathan - for leading the tourist class and leading the church service.
3) Barbara - for, again, providing piano for church
4) Julie - (Of Amstel1977 Mike and Julie) for helping set up the dry erase board in the Lobby. (And who ever then kept updating the same board - Julie claims it wasn't her).
5) Courtney - (Of "Indelibility" - Jason and Courtney) for being the only lady who will ride with me other than Kim Nugent - you helped keep the tradition alive that a lady rides with me on the "Sunset Cruise".
6) All First time Dragon attendees - you make the weekend worth it.
My mind has not slowed down, I know there is more to say, but I know a lot of you won't be checking this thread often and I wanted to get the above said while you are still watching the thread.

What a superb GTG! So few cars,,, so much fun. What a way to kick Ole Man Winter out the door.
I only wish I had the courage to tell my customer NO and come. As it happens, he isn't happy anyway.
Sunday Morning, after it is too late Crumpy says, " you should have gone." Thanks Babe.
There is no way to recapture the lost opportunity but anyone who doesn't try to get there this fall, will also, and most assuredly, miss a great time.

After a weekend like that it makes me hate Ohio's straight flat roads even more. I pray for just one tight turn but I'm left with on ramps until fall. Thanks again for making me feel welcome. And all the info. On what will break when it breaks from the srt owners.

So we spent the weekend about 50 miles west of Franklin - and I am leaving the office now, rented a Jeep and am headed to Hendersonville, which is south of Asheville, I will drive to Franklin and then head east.
I have a project up there, hauling about 150 pounds of test equipment to go assist our dealer with a project.
I drove thru Franklin on the way home yesterday...
ERIC,
You should come down and visit - I live right on the edge of the North Georgia mountains..... I drive thru curves doing to WORK!
(Well, when Im in the office...)

I love the goat picture. He was just trying to warn us that there was I limb in the road. I've got to get new tires before anymore road trips but thanks Mark. I had no idea that I was driving on it's original front tires and the back are 7 years old.

I am gonna work (under Gary) to make this fall a really good event. We should have 2-3 times as many cars and I think it will be worth it to make some little changes to improve the flow of the weekend.
I hope you all make it back.
GARY, how 'bout you unpin this thread and we'll go on yakking while you create the fall thread - several of us already have rooms reserved.

I think we topped out at around 75 in the fall of '09.
There is a thread here somewhere that Gary made that tells of the history of TOD attendance.

Re: 8th Annual SPRING 2015 - Tail of the Dragon GTG-April 3, 4, 5 - 2015
I'm currently reading a book call "One Year With A Ferrari" and found the chapter 'First Time on the Track' to be really interesting and points out some information that can be used at your next Dragon meet.
So how do you keep a Ferrari from sliding around? Don’t ask it to do too many things at once. When you think about it there are really only four things you ask of a car. Speed up, slow down, turn, or maintain speed. At the track the very first thing I learned was I had to use the brakes to slow down for corners. It is seldom on the road that I am driving fast enough I have to brake for a corner. On the track if I had to brake for every corner. If not, one of two things would have been true. Either I was going too slowly or I would end up getting well acquainted with a tire wall.
If you get to drive on the track or if you are going fast enough on the road that you need to brake for a corner don’t ask your car to slow down and turn simultaneously. Get all the busy, distracting stuff involved with slowing down and changing gears done while the car is going straight. Let the car settle down then turn.
Why? Turning unsettles the car, braking unsettles the car, and shifting unsettles the car. Together, these unsettling events reduce the tire’s grip and the speed at which you can safely get through the corner. Easy stuff, but watch other drivers. Most people apply their brakes when turning and do not release the brake until they are well past the apex of the turn.
