Crossfires Across America #6 - Ozark Mountain Region - June 15-18, 2015
Re: Crossfires Across America #6 - Ozark Mountain Region - June 15-18, 2015
Pig's trail Harley has officially switched "Bike Night" from Wednesdays to Fridays. The BBQ Wednesday is them sticking to what they said "just for us". We will be the only group there as far as I know - and a perfect picture opportunity. All we'll have to do is see what Andrew considers a perfect picture background.

As for Andrew, he always frames a good shot.

Booked spots for Peggy and I and Mike and Barb for the lunch train early this morning.
The lady said our 4 made it 59 reserved and the train holds 72 so not many left...
Should be a fun time

This is my first GTG other than Carlisle event. I see comments in thread about walkie-talkies, what kind are recommend? Is there any other essentials I should have? I see several routes, are those one for each day or are there several groups from the whole group going out on different ones each day. Just curious how it works.

FRS (family radio system) walkie talkies are all you need . . . They are inexpensive and have 14 different selectable channels. The various groups will communicate on a channel designated by the group leader. You can spend a bit more and buy GMRS walkie talkies which cover the FRS 14 channels plus some additional channels and can operate at a higher power on some of the channels allowing for increased range.
Regarding the routes . . . usually attendees will choose a route for the day (a different route each day) and go off in smaller groups following the designated leader for that route. I presume that will be the program at CAA#6.
Welcome and looking forward to meeting you.

The multiple routes are for "break out groups".. ideally you run them all during the week. We do this due to logistics of keeping 65 cars together.. and overwhelming restaurants with 100 plus people walking in for lunch. About 15 cars or so per "group" keeps things more manageable. The evenings are "on your own" diner.. usually you meet people that "click" with you and end up doing dinners in smaller groups.. or we've ran off to Sonic by ourselves before.. We spend evenings gathered up getting to know each other better and discuss the days fun and adventures.

and once you are on your way after CAA ends you will have memories that will keep the perma-grin on all the way home although you might also experience sadness that such a wonderful time is now just a memory

I didn't get this "warning" with our first outing with owners.. But it is very true!
You may notice lots of enthusiasm for driving somewhere to meet and drive some more.. LOL. It's the people and fun you have with them - and the chance to do it again is always "too far off"..

I am sure we will have many photo opportunities for group shots, probably the train run will be a good one as well with some good background of the trains perhaps. We always have small group shots as well in each run and i will have my trusty tripod with me as usual, and will post up the pictures on my website a few days after we return.
We always try to do a few shots with as many cars and people as we can get at one time.
The evenings as people have said are the bonding times where we all share stories or runs and events of the day, a great time to relax and chill after the evening meal ready for the next days fun.
Some may think the runs are long, but they are usually split by multiple stops along the way for sightseeing picture opportunities and rest stops.
Dont forget the sunscreen as well for any roadsters, all day sun can be quite harsh this time of year. Always good to buy a case of water to take along as well even if its warm its good to stay hydrated.
Cant wait to see everyone next weekend

Cool! It sounds like we'll definitely be the talk of the town. Someone should contact the local paper to let them know what is about to happen to Eureka Springs
