Crossfires Across America #5 - The Two Mile High Adventure - July 7-10, 2014
Re: Crossfires Across America #5 - The Two Mile High Adventure - July 7-10, 2014
Then on Sunday morning we will be joining the locals for the trip to Rifle, Colorado to our host hotel for the week.
BUT FIRST along our route is a spectacular sight to see and I encourage all who can join us to make this a part of your CAA experience !!!
click >>> Mount Evans - Highest Paved Road in North America <<<<<
Mount Evans is the road into the sky.
All 14 miles of the road from the entrance station to the Mount Evans summit parking area (14,130) are paved.
Drive from 8,700 feet at Idaho Springs exit where you turn off Interstate 70 to 14,240 feet to the summit, and you will pass through 3 life zones, passing ancient trees, lakes and forest to the land above timberline.
It can be 90 degrees in Denver and 40 degrees at the top of Mount Evans.
Mountain Goats and Bighorn Sheep will greet you as you climb to the top of the world.

Looks like Amarillo might be the stopping point.. deviate a little off the path, with a fair amount to entertain ourselves there..
This might have just sealed the deal.. 11 FREE! GOD BLESS TEXAS!

I am booked into Hotel in Rifle,Co. Is anyone else from Houston or S, Tx going. I would like to caravan with them. It looks like Amarillo would be a good overnight stop. it will be a long drive from Houston. What hotel are you looking at in Amarillo and what night will you be there?

We will be leaving out Friday, probably late morning, and drive to Amarillo, haven't selected a hotel as of yet. From there it will be another short hop over to Walsenberg, CO. to meet up with smfrycruzr Saturday night (Best Western Rambler ). Then on in to Rifle..

Let me know what hotel you guys pick in Amarillo, looks like 10-11 hr drive from Houston. If we leave Friday around 8-10am should get there in time to eat dinner. I guess I need to dig up your hotel info after Amarillo too. I am booked at Comfort Inn in Rifle7-10th of July. Let me know of anything I am leaving out.

Got a 2.5 * for $50.00. We’re at the Best Western, 1610 S Coulter St. About 4 miles from park. I took a chance on the bid your price. Didn’t get lucky like we have in the past to get the Baymont. But, it’s still has the same rating & free breakfast. "

Well, Ithink I have rooms setup for Amarillo, Best Western, Coulter St. and Best Western in Walsenburg, then Comfort Inn in Rifle Co. and the respective return stays as well. Hope we can all meetup. Thought there would be some coming from Houston, but have not been contacted by anyone yet!

We've got a few months for others to figure out their plans, but at least there is now a route set up for others to co ordinate with if it fits their schedule. since we have pretty much all day to drive the five hours to Amarillo we'll be open to hooking up with anyone else coming through our area on Friday.
