Crossfires Across America #5 - The Two Mile High Adventure - July 7-10, 2014
Re: Crossfires Across America #5 - The Two Mile High Adventure - July 7-10, 2014
Was the inside tread worn like that or did the rock also cause that?

Do you mean with all those nice people there no one would buy you a hot dog? You had to clean up for a Coney dog

The tire needed to be replaced before the event due to wear. But once he hit the rock and it went flat, he had to drive it to the berm from the high speed lane causing damage to the sidewall where the rim rode on it.

Yep my tire was actually due for replacement before the event but as i only decided to go on the day before i left i didnt bother to change it, not sure if it would have made any difference. I will replace both sides very soon and keep Gary's one as a spare. i have to say that the car handled well with the blown front tire and i managed to steer it to the hard shoulder without any problems.

With the rock catching the inside of the tire and rim, the amount of tread wouldn't have made any difference. Look at it this way, at least you didn't destroy a brand new tire.

I have created another folder on my Smugmug website. I have moved the Crossfire people pictures into a folder called CAA5 (which is not right click protected), and the landscapes into a folder called Colorado (which is protected)

Finally made it home. 6450 miles total for the trip.
What a great time put on by the Colorado Group. A big thanks for their time and effort. If I mention names I would be sure to forget someone. The contest, door prizes, goody bags, and the cook-out was over the top. THANK YOU. Anyone that missed this one missed a big one. Tammi and I saw places that we would have never ventured on our own. Awesome time and something we will remember for many many years.
After CAA, we traveled further west through Arches National, Bryce, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Zion, the upper and lower rims of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and finally Petrified Forest.
We stayed over in some small towns on the old Route 66 on the way home. Williams, AZ was a nice place to stay to relive the old times on 66. But for the most part, it was very surprising what has happened to these old towns once the Interstate was built. Many are ghost towns, dozens of motels, gas stations, hardware stores all vacant and falling down. It was really sad to see this. Progress. Also we happened across the Cadillac Ranch.
Many thanks again to the Colorado Group and hope to see you all soon.
James & Tammi
PS - The Crossfire was flawless on the trip. But due to the heat out there, I will need to recover my headliner. It started coming down along the rear hatch and front sun visors. The car is over 10 years old and should be expected.

For those who missed the run to Gateway Canyon and the car museum, here is a link to the Car Crazy show that featured it.
TV Show - Car Crazy Central
Thanks again to the CO folks for setting this up, it will be a real challenge to keep up that level of a gathering.
