7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
Thanks Franc for a great run out today.
We are now the official OFF ROAD Crossfire founding members.
12 miles of gravel track and 1/2 inch of dust, but we had a blast and a fantastic BBQ lunch at a great location.
Some great curves and scenery on the way.

Maxhole made it home safe after 4 complete, unmolested Dragon runs at 9 this morning. Just 3 u-turns.
It was a bit greasy with the dew, but I never saw another car, truck or scooter!
Great seeing everyone again, and to those I promised help, just PM me when you get home.
Safely! No one ever wants to see a Crossfire turn turtle.

I made it. What a perfect day to tackle a perfect road in a perfect car.
It was great to have met you all. I hope I did not hold you up too much.
That was some fast driving group of cars!

We had just about the BEST Dragon run on the way back, too. Other than two Harleys, who both pulled over right away, we had the Dragon to ourselves! ! ! ! Amazing luck for a saturday.

Why am I still up?
Long, LONG, fun day. You had to BE here to really understand: WONDERFUL weather (but HOT, 91F at one time) and a great run on the Triangle.

All home safe and DRY !! Expected rain all the way, not a drop !
Nice meeting new friends, and thanks to Jonathon for the Dillsboro run Saturday, SquirrelCrusher and I really enjoyed it, although he did completely miss that one squirrel in the road ......
Missed a family of racoons this morning by inches just before Robbinsville myself.

Ohhh - I am feeling sad that I missed the Dillsboro run with Jonathon and Murphi ! - Having lunch with them in Dillsboro was one of the highlights of my Dragon visit last year with my daughter as co-pilot. It was a wonderful Dragon/NC experience (I say this as a NC non-mountain transplant), ala-xfire - thank you for the reminder of how much fun this was. I have been thinking of all of you swishing/rocketing down the roads in all XF glory - the fun you were having and the camaraderie that joins us about the love and respect for the cars. I wish I had been there - but so glad that I made the Dragon last year! I think y'all must have had a fabulous time....

I'm home! ran into some rain about 10 miles from the house, so I won't be able to clean the car today. Maybe when Katrina, Karen, or whatever they've named this storm moves through. What a great weekend it was though. I want to thank Shawn for rooming/partying with me all weekend. I've never had so much fun off the road on a dragon weekend like I did this weekend. We also had some pretty epic runs. One was Thursday afternoon running through the dragon with Shawn chasing me down and the other was a pretty perfect Skyway run. We didn't have any traffic and only stopped so Mark (Pizzaguy) could catch up after receiving a speeding ticket.
Quck rundown.
Friday Shawn, Ken & Barbie (Joe) and I went to Pigeon Forge for some extreme go kart racing. Great track, just not much opportunity to pass. We also slowly made our way down 441 back to 28. Beautiful views, but a lot of traffic.
Saturday the aggressive group went to the Devil's Triangle via the Skyway. Poor Pizza finally got his ticket at a dragon event and someone in the aggressive group finally got a ticket. Amazingly enough I think only one crossfire received a ticket this year. According to the Gen Coupe guys they had 8 tickets by the end of Saturday night. Anyway, the triangle was a traffic nightmare. We had a few minutes to enjoy it, but for the most part we had a dangerous driver in front of us the entire time. Everyone seemed to have had a good time though, and Mark was very light hearted about getting a ticket. Oh and I managed to get people back before the boat ride. Sorry to all my folks for rushing them through the day, but I wanted to make sure we got back in time for those who had tickets for the "3 hour tour"
Sunday we woke up and took Ken and Barbie down to the damn and then tried to tear up Hell Bender. Sadly we ran into a group of bikers right out of the Tim Allen Biker movie "Wild Hogs", and they thought they were so cool that 10mph was fast enough and moving over was for chumps. This was going to be the status quo of my day. After saying my good byes I hopped in the Mercedes and quickly got behind a group of biker. Wear I stayed until pulling off at Tennessee side of the dragon to talk with a miata owner.
Anyway I want to give a big thank you to all of you who made this dragon one of my favorite dragon events ever.
THANK YOU <------- see it's all big like
BTW AKING57 is an Aussie if any of you didn't know.

We made it home safe, but tired.
This was our first TOD event, and Mary and I really enjoyed all of it, especially meeting all the wonderful folks.
I got 3 big surprises, 1 the car is so very much more than I thought. I am a better driver than I thought (I didn't roll over a single time.) My wife was wonderful, never screamed a single time. Let's do it again.

I enjoyed leading the new "Tourist Class"! We had 16 cars and mostly first timers. We ran the speed limit for the most part and enjoyed a great lunch and conversations. Our group was probably the slowest group of Crossfires to ever run the Dragon....but lots of smiles! Todays run was both mild to spirited with a great lunch. I am so glad I decided to buy my Crossfire and join this Group!!!!

Well, thanks for the update. 1 ticket isn't a bad weekend and no one kissed the dragon. I am still in the Dominican Republic on R&R. It's pretty rough down here. Pool, beach, & a little drinking. I think I would had even more at the dragon but I will hang down here for a few more days. Glad you all had fun.
