Ray,
Thanks for the arrangements here.
Count me in for the day with this plan.
Sounds like a nice way to spend the day and still enjoy the scenic roads driving in the NC mountains along the way.
__________________________________________________ _____
Then on Saturday at sunset I plan to join John and Molly (BoilerUpXFire) for a sunset boat cruise on Fontana lake
Anyone else want to join us ??

Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
So, we have added a new option for Saturday's runs and activities:
Brewery Run
Evening Boat Ride
Suppose if we could get a Canadian to come down, they'd lead and host a square dance around the Gen Coupe's Camp Fire?

Anything related to a brewery sounds enticing, but would have to take the samples back for consumption later, don't want to take risks on these roads. Who is leading the run ?
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
Is there a list of activities that the group is participating in, do I have to sign up ahead of time?
The original plan was to wait until I get there and see what is available.
I saw something about a Friday night meeting, when is that?
Brewery? What brewery?

I think the current choices for Saturday are :
1. the brewery/museum in Maggie Valley
2. pacemaker's tourist run ( may be the same as 1. )
3. Nick's triangle run ( not for the faint hearted )
4. Do your own thing and run the Dragon or veg out at the pool.
Pretty sure the boat cruise thing is booked up.
I usually go with pacemaker, but if it's different this time, I might try the brewery/museum tour.

I'd say it is best to just wait till Friday night and make a decision then. ( at 8 or 9 PM )

The meeting is at 9:00 Eastern time. Generally in the Lobby at the Lodge.
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
You can't go wrong on any of 1-4 trips ,and you can also go on your own take a map and see the Mtn. there really no list what ever you feel like doing at the time,
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
Don't worry Gary will make it clear during the evening meeting in the lodge what options are available over the weekend , there is always something to suit all tastes and driving. You will never feel alone or lost ask anyone what is going on if you are not sure. Sometimes things are arranged on the fly, if someone suddenly feels like doing a Dragon run or a trip out somewhere others may join in and take off for an hours or so when it's quiet. We are always milling around the hotel parking lot chatting and having a joke and laugh. In the evenings we usually split into smaller groups for supper in one of the restaurants or if you have been on a run you would probably had a good meal out at a local restaurant. Folks arrive from Thursday ( a smaller number) through to Friday afternoon so the numbers gradually swell. We usually also do a photo session down at the dam in the morning before we split into the different runs for the day.
As soon as you arrive you will feel welcome and part of the Crossfire family.

Just ordered myself a new set of Hankooks for the rear wanted to bed them in before the Dragon in a few weeks.
Going with Gary and Marks suggestions so I hope they are right.

Just join all of us and hear whats going on at a meeting I have with the entire group on Friday night around 9pm in the lobby.
There is something that will appeal to everyone and you can ask most any of us who have been there before most anything about the weekend.
We are a flexible and friendly group and will help you decide what you will want to do.
The Saturday run which includes the stop at the Brewery will be led by Ray and Susan (Osofast2)
Nantahala Brewing
Here is the plan for that run on Saturday

See ya there, Gary

With 41+ cars coming, I'd bet we'll have four runs on Saturday - something for everyone.
And I may end up alone after all, in which case I'll possibily turn in my two seats on the boat to someone else.
The 9pm driver's meeting is a good time to make up your mind what you are doing on Saturday. THEN, you use that experience to make up your mind what your are doing on Sunday (especially if you are staying Sunday night).
I'd got a flight to Seattle Monday so I think I've pretty much gotta head home Sunday by 3PM.

Hankooks get my endorsment as well. We have them on the wife's SRT.
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
WHOA! WAIT A MINUTE, there will be at least one "Moderate" run down the skyway and back thru the Dragon.

Saturday evening, I may be making a run down to Franklin NC to meet a friend. If you give up your boat ride, I could use a wingman.
Re: 7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
I will be out of town for the next week. I have to go to the beach. I may not be able to check in during that time (down Sunday, back Sunday) three couples in a 4 bedroom house at Perdido Key Alabama. This is an annual thing. Last year I wanted to go to the Dragon, but we had already reserved the house for the same weekend. This time I said "change it". So everything is working out great. I have been to the Smokies several times but never in the Fontana area, I am really looking forward to it.
