Crossfires Across America (CAA #4) with Texas Motor Speedway - September 1 - 7
Re: Crossfires Across America (CAA #4) with Texas Motor Speedway - September 1 - 7
We celebrated our last dinner together while in Alpine at the Reata. Reata is named after the Reata Ranch in the movie GIANT. GIANT was actually filmed in Marfa, TX, down the highway from Alpine.

Lorne, you ole' truck driver. If you can make a trip to TX. Then I will have to do the same. Good seeing you and all the others having fun at the CAA #4. Maybe after we heal up we will be ready this time next year. Haven't much luck traveling east, maybe west will change my luck. Have fun all...

Guys - Looks like an absolute riot. Enjoy CAA.
Zip, Inferno & Texas T - Thanks for the great pics.
Lorne - Nice orange WWDC Tee!
Did I see a rare Oyster Gold coupe in the group?

But after we exited the park, there was a stretch of highway that was prime for 100mph+...long, straight and smooth. As we crested the hill going into it, it was obvious there was no law. The road was completely deserted. Many of us were doing 105-110mph for at least 10-15 minutes...would have done faster if it wasn't so hot and concerns about tires on the hot pavement. Many of us did at least 95-100mph for 2 of the 3 days of drives.

Geezer showed up with his oyster gold!.. And Valk.. we did hit 100+ a couple times.. with wives thinking we're crazy.. LOL.
Out running in the open in these pics.. you might find a boarder patrol after two hours driving..
So yeah.. we had some spirited runs along the way..

I simply can't resist the need for speed when the roads are right and the law is nowhere to be seen.
I once was on a road heading west along the Canadian boarder in the upper peninsula of Michigan and had about 50 miles of deserted highway
I've told the story many times as to how I ran flat out at 155mph for nearly 10 minutes.
Best time I have ever had in my Crossfire
Now tomorrow out on the Texas Motor Speedway you can run a controlled pace behind the pace car @ 80mph

I originally wanted to be part of this GTG. But with the time I've taken off this year, and the money I've spent - this one was a "no-way".
But I see that I am missing a good one. Be safe, you guys - 3 weeks, 6 days to the Dragon.
