Ok, I am leaving for Fontana on Thursday morning April 4th.

If no one follows me, I'll leave about 8am. But if some want to go up in a convoy (and I know the way, this wont be the disaster my last marriage was, I promise ) - then post here and we'll get ourselves organized. (Last fall, the drive up included a romantic proposal - but I was only the camera man for that one!)

I live just off Georgia 400 between exits 13 and 14, known as the Cumming (Cumming GA) exits.

If I have Atlanta people along for the tour, then I'd plan to leave exit 14 when everyone gets here, how 'about 11am? 11am would put us at Deal's Gap by 2:30 and the Lodge by 3:00 - and that's with 1/2 hour for lunch in, maybe, Blairsville, GA about 12:15.

Plans almost never work out right, but if we aim for 11 and get outta here by noon, we can have lunch here at exit 14, and still join the others by 4pm.

I can think of three places some will want to stop to take pictures and have figured 20 minutes in there for that. Gas is available all along the route, but most of us gas up in Robbinsville, just 20 minutes before Deal's Gap as they often limit gas purchases to 5 or 8 gallons.

We will be going via GA400/US19/GA60/GA180 (180 is "the road to no-where"!) and then US129 all the way to Deal's Gap. A very pretty drive almost all the way there! It SOUNDS complicated, but I run those roads almost every month, got them memorized.
