Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
Ok, I'm headed out Thursday maybe noon or so from Atlanta. I think we have a guy leaving the area Friday morning. I made this thread as an attempt to "convoy" up to Fontana - not only for ME to lead a group, but for others in the four state region to do so as well.
EDIT 8-6-12: I'm planning on leaving home (Cumming, Georgia - GA400 Exit 14 about 20 miles north of I-285) about noon. Route will be up 400 to it's end, then left on GA60. We take GA60 thru Dahlonega, over Blood Mountain, on to Suches GA then all the way to Mineral Bluff, GA. (Thanks to BK from Gencoupes for mentioning this route!) We turn left at Mineral Bluff then follow "GA60 Spur" across the line into North Carolina and into Murphy, where we take US129 all the way to Deal's gap!
The almost-40-miles from Dahlonega to Mineral Bluff is mostly curves and takes us up over Blood Mountain and past "Woody Gap" and thru a LOT of beautiful scenery.
NOTE: 100% PREMIUM gas is available in Suches, GA, as well as Deal's Gap (sometimes limited to 8 gallons, but the station towards Robbinsville is 100% with no limit).

Re: Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
YES! Happy to have you guys (and gals?) !!!
I take 400 up until it ends and then take US19 around Dahlonega to US129 at the south end of Blood Mountain - then it's up over the hill via the curves!
In effect, it's 129 all the way to the Gap after that!
EDIT: WRONG. Change of plans, see other posts.

I cannot believe I NEVER looked at 60 past that intersection... I just did!
I'm gonna go try that in the next few days and get back to ya!!!! Good one, Bill!
(Damn, I live only 1/2 hour from Dahlonaga now - never, ever looked at the map before - LOOK AT THE CURVES!) I'll get back to you!
Re: Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
I live in Cumming on GA 400 at exit 14 - I plan to leave Thursday by noon, maybe by 9 am, not sure yet.
Today, I'm waiting for the rain to clear off, then I am headed up BK's suggested route (GA 60) to check it out and get lunch up near the state line.
(Was gonna do it after work next week, but I'm gonna make an afternoon of it and get lunch while I'm out - also, they are sending me to Cleveland, OH next week for a few days.)
Part of what makes up my mind about when to leave is, as we get closer, seeing when various groups/individuals will be coming thru. I want to convoy with ohters - but I ALSO want to get up there fairly early in the day.

I went up 60 to Mineral Bluff and back this afternoon. It would cost us about 20 mins and a few more miles than 129, but could be SO worth it. About 33 miles of almost nothing but curves - there is ONE legal passing area and about four stretches of double line that you can see a LONG way. (Not sure why no passing in them, but I passed twice coming home).
If we get behind slow cars, we might be stuck. Alltho I did have 2 or 3 pull over for me. I have NO idea what traffic would be like on a week day, but at 4-7 pm Saturday, there was hardly any traffic.
Im in for a ride up 60 !
TWO MONTHS TO GO, PEOPLE !
October 4th: the Dragon's a$$ is ours!

Ok, I'm leaving Thursday, I THINK about noon but we'll know more as we get closer.
If you left home about 8am, you'd be here well before noon.
I know some who come from Florida stay the night near Macon or Atlanta, so I'm thinking a noon-ish departure will work for most of us.
Sounds like we might have some GenCoupes along as well, just depends on timing.
EDITED MY OPENING POST.

Well I got some crappy news. I may not be able to make it. This weekend my Challenger started acting up. After I pulled some things apart it appears that I'll need to get a new intake manifold and carburetor and I may have stripped the head when re-installing the headers...
Re: Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
I am still hoping to make it; depends on how much it costs to fix it.
Sounds like a plan. The more the merrier I say .

Re: Fall 2012 Dragon Convoy from ATL/GA/FL/AL/SC?
I would be in that neck of the woods if I plan it Thursday. May have a few other TX Gen Coupe brothers with me if I can to convince them to get off their rears and come. You'd think it would be easy, but their like bumps on a log or something lol. I will keep an eye on starting location and time and see if I can work it. I am taking Wednesday off additionally this time around, so, I will be driving most of the trip out Wednesday. Maybe spend the night near Atlanta if I am desperate lol (bleh...Atlanta traffic can be killed with fire...).
