Of course, we don't ALWAYS drive like we just robbed a bank...
(Just so the newcomers and Sunday Drivers know that, sometimes, we just admire the scenery...)

I hear that about the tires. But 4 sets in 4 years isn't too bad, depending on how many miles you put on it.
I just dropped $500 on a pair of fronts! Ugh. But racing is hard on tires. Hopefully I won't need a new set after the Dragon.
P.S. I still need a roommate! PM me if you want to split a room.

I have a recommendation - if you have never come to a Dragon before (and even if you have):
1) Go to Walmart, Best Buy or Sams' Club
2) Look for "FRS Radios"
3) Buy one (or better yet, a set of two. Even better - a set of four)
4) Get four extra batteries for each radio you buy
5) Be willing to share with someone who did not read this post!
6) Go back and get four more extra batteries
Or... go here: https://www.google.com/#q=FRS+radios...w=1760&bih=813
Any Portable FRS radio will work, some better than others - but any radio is better than NO radio.
I expect to lead a group, so I intend to bring at least two (so that at least I and my last car have one - but truth is, sometimes we need better range than these radios give, so we need one or more cars in the middle to relay, at times, especially in a LONG line of cars and with over 60 cars - we may have some long convoys.)
You will know more what is going on (usually) and can get answer to questions faster and hear crazy comments as we roll along!
Also, the leader and last car need to be able to communicate so that we know all cars got thru the light !!!! (This way, we know enough to wait up if someone got caught by a fast light).
Radios are probably the most common, "Wish I had thought of that" item at the Dragon.
You can usually buy batteries at the 'Gap or in Robbinsville - most of these use AA batteries - but you'll pay less at WalMart or Radio Shack.
MY personal opinion is that rechargeable batteries and chargers are a waste of money for those who don't use the radios a lot, if anyone was going to ask.
But it's up to you.

I already have a set and i am assuming that i can "tune" it in to pick up your channel?
I must admit i can feel the excitement building for this, my first crossfire event.
I cant wait to meet all you folks for the first time.
I will be the 6' 4" tall Brit.

I usually use FRS channel 1 or 7 with no "privacy code" or "pl". An FRS radio is an FRS radio... just set it to the channel and turn off "privacy codes" and you are all set.

I just dug out my pair of FRS radios. THANKS for your post about bringing along those FRS radios (Walkie-Talkies).

Ok.. I'm in North GA, so I can be at Deals Gap in about 2 1/2 hours... I don't have time to spend all three days, but I'd love to see an agenda... (if one exists) of what is going on Saturday the 6th.. Which Run, Meeting time, where's lunch, etc... I'm new to the Forum, and new to the Crossfire and would love to meet and talk to other owners... Let me know..
Re: 6th Annual Fall 2012 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 5, 6, 7
My agenda has been cleared. I will be able to make after all, please add me to the list. Room booked today. My first Dragon run, really excited. Driving from Toronto, Canada. I'm thinking of dolling the Crossfire behind my truck, Dodge Ram, it's like driving your family room on wheels(super comfortable). Has anyone else ever done this, pros, cons. Thanks

Saturday will have several different runs going on with leaders designated for each group.
Meeting time will be 9am on Saturday morning to take a group photo on the grass baseball field at the Fontana Lodge (weather permitting)
then a 60+ Crossfire convoy (only done once all in one line) 3 miles to Fontana Damn where we all park and then divide into groups for the daily runs.
Lunch is dependent as to which run you go on but is planned into each run.
Try to join us at Fontana Lodge by 9am

I live in Cumming - I'm leaving Thursday at noon to convoy with the GenCoupes and any Cross's that show up, staying until Sunday evening.
I don't care how close you are, you won't wanna come home after just one day. Either get a friday night room or a saturday night room - AT LEAST - 'cause otherwise, you'll miss out on too much. About the only meeting and talking is at the Lodge each evening after about 5-6pm. (The meet at the dam is fun, but doesn't last all that long...)
IF they are sold out, several on here are looking for roommates and at such low rates - it's a steal for the best weekend you'll ever have with that car!
