I think a big crowd like ours places quite a demand on the employees of small (or even large) places like that. The kids who work in those places earn more than they make, IMO. I like to show that people mean something to me, that I have empathy for others. (Especially after dealing with someone recently who does NOT have much empathy for others...)

SO IF YA GET A TICKET, TIP THE OFFICER!!!

Danimal will be taking some of the regulars who have done the Saturday Loop several times before on an alternate run on Saturday.
We will still have a large number of folks going to Robbinsville but I have already spoke with the manager at Papas Pizza and told them to expect a HUGE group around noon for lunch.
Parking may be the biggest issue but there has always been a way to squeeze them all in so we will just take over the place for an hour !!

I was talking with folks at Deals Gap yesterday and found out that there have been significantly larger car clubs/groups run The Dragon. Probably not a surprise to many. I was told that both the Miatas and Minis have had 400+ during a single weekend. Now that's BIG!!!

But when you consider the number of total cars produced under those marques (both of which I consider mainstream models), having 400 or so show up for a weekend is not nearly as impressive as us having 80 XFires (limited performance coupe/roadster) gather for a ToD GTG.

Weather forecast calling for rain starting Sunday in the area. Cool front is moving in and, since we've been in the mid-90s nearly all week, the combination is going to produce some precip. Temp on Sunday is suppose to be only mid-70s. We need both the rain and the seasonal change. Hopefully, precip will be gone by our ToD GTG next weekend. Mid-70s to lower-80s should make for great 'topless' weather for those appropriately equipped!

Thanks for getting the special rate Gary. I just ordered the pre-pay. They take great pictures and I look forward to a great weekend. We did a small MN GTG last weekend. Well worth the time (260 miles round trip) to connect with other Crossfire owners.

Joey DeHart is a good guy and pretty much runs the show down there as far as all our dining needs.
Whether we go in large groups of just come and go as we please we have always been served well at the Wildwood Grill.
They have a decent menu with reasonable priced sandwiches etc.
Don't forget to order the "Fried Pickles" for an appetizer.

Pickles, in ANY form are not an appetizer - they are hardly a condiment.

Oh Mark .... you missed them in the spring! I think there was a pickle shortage in NC after we got done chowing down on those delicious treats. I HATE pickles with a passion that can't be explained, but Ruth Winchester made me try them - to my extreme surprise they were AWESOME! Oh wait, there are way more people coming this time .... they might run out of pickles .... the pickles were terrible! Terrible, I say!! Stay away from them if you value your gastrointestinal fortitude!!!

Now see, not only do you build awesome cars, but you are always the helpful one. No wonder girls like to hold you by your legs.

I questioned having fried pickles till I tried them, now I'm a fan.

hcarter is correct, it just started misting here at the lodge. While the wife is in more work shops, I'm looking at some drives. Gonna do the Moonshiner and then coming back divert a little. I may do the original planned Sunday drive as we've not been here on a Sunday to do it yet. Then some tourist things, the Biltmore per Jane's suggestion a year back.

Here's a route Roberta & I have used that would take you along the BRP up to Asheville where you could get off and take in Biltmore House. You could then take I-40/US-74 back to Fontana Village.

But if you've got time to kill, Chimney Rock is also a great place to hang out (Last of the Mohicans was filmed there). Then you could wind back down to Highlands and then back up Moonshiner 28 to Fontana Village. Full day, but a nice ride.

Is It posssible to leave after the pictures on Saturday, drive to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, do the mansion tour, and then get back to the lodge before dark (and the BBQ)?. My wife would really like to see that place...
