I suggest you and any others who wish to avoid the Dragon..... do the alternate run on Saturday that Danimal has planned....
the Dragon is then optional at the end.

We made it to the lodge...where are all of you
Dropped the wife off at her workshop by the carwash area and then I washed all the bugs off...car looks much better.
Weather report for the day, beautiful! Expecting storms in the area for the weekend and Monday however...but mine's daily so we'll be driving around the area regardless.
Foliage report - sorry folks, but still very very green; there is a cold front moving in, but I don't think you'll see much change then.
Driving down after work yesterday we experienced a number of LEO's in IL before hitting our hotel in Cadiz KY; if you ever you go through that area and need a room, I don't recommend the Broadbent Inn and Suites.
Anyway, driving through TN was pretty good except some rush hour traffic in the morning near Nashville. There is some construction near Cookeville on Hwy 40 for about nine miles with night time closures, but the LEO's are watching with reduced speeds.
Dragon - not a lot of traffic today and it started out nicely but then I ended up behind someone in a Buick Lucerne...the slow group would be complaining about this. Finally after a couple of miles he pulled off to let me pass and I got lucky. They've recently added some more pull-offs from the looks of it. I think I started to get extra aggressive (for me), but the wife wasn't complaining. Everything was going great.....
Yes, you guessed right if you said LEO They were on the Dragon but I never crossed the yellow line... I'm at the last curve before hitting Cooper Straight and there they were...flagged me over just before the last big curve Crud Corner.
Came up to me and said he clocked me doing 46 in a 30! He says the governor has them up this way on a grant enforceing safety . Either way, he was a very nice CPL and let me off with a warning. I really think he was just thinking I was going fast because my XF is Red and knows it is the fastest color...plus he heard my exhaust.
So there you go, they seem to be keeping up the speeding tickets, so be careful!
I'll try to get back on from time to time to let you all know what is going on with the weather, leaves, and if the LEO activity is about the same.

Erzer: First let me say, your initial status post was great! Really got my juices flowing to start our trek towards Fontana Village. Keep the updates coming!
Consider yourself lucky! Normally in SC, and probably sister state NC, 15 over the posted speed limit would get your license jerked for 30 days - 1st offense! Now I know that LEO normally gives the car clubs/groups alot of leeway when it comes to the posted speed limits along The Dragon. After all, The Dragon is why nearly every car club/group comes to that part of the country. But when you start pushing 15+ over the speed limit, LEO can get real ugly in a hurry. One car - driver gets a warning. 80 cars - LEO could take the position that we're driving recklessly! Would LEO write 80 tickets? I can't possibly imagine that ! But LEO might try! (I've been pulled over in a group of 12 Merkur XR4Ti's on I-81N in VA headed to Carlisle back in my previous life. And that highway was straight and had hardly any traffic! What was the big deal!)
I like enjoying the capabilities of the XFire as much as anyone else. But our weekend GTG is approaching numbers we've never seen before. And that could pose some problems in and by itself. I'm bettin' there hasn't been any group of 'motor-heads', cars or motorcycles, with 80 strong gathered for a Dragon Run. We could end up making headlines in local news media. So let's make sure the headlines are the right kind. Everyone be safe, drive carefully coming, during, & going next weekend. We may never see this many XFires in one place ever again!

Trust me Dennis I do! There is group of S2000's down here and one of the younger ones told me he was heading back up/out and the same one's got him...said 52. He didn't get such a break
For those of you who have not been here, as I said in the other post they have a place to wash cars. They do have a bucket, but I wouldn't let any of their sponges touch my car. Also, make sure you bring or get some car wash soap; they have Palmolive soap and I don't think you want to use that. I need some detail spray, so if I get by a store this week, I'll see if I can pick up some Meguiar's gold.
I look forward to seeing 80 Crossfires coming into this area,
Can you just imagine the looks!!!
