I think that is the center of the US. What's 1500 miles in each direction between friends?!?! I drove from San Fran to Orlando - that was 3553 miles so this might be a little closer than half, but still a REALLY long haul!!

Gary, I am still willing to be a regional rep. rather I go or not, chances are I will attend, just need to give it some thought, see what my options are as far as what is to see and do along the drive. I just don't want to drive up then turn around and drive back... I like to stop along the way at points of interest...I will investigate... I'm Open... I'll see what I can Google up between here and there and hopefully that will inspire others this way as well... we might find the "Biggest Ball of Yarn" along the way....!!! who knows!!!! LOL "monkey farm:" LOL cracking myself up now!!!

Well, never thought I'd be going to Iowa or Nebraska but if it's half as much fun as the Dragon, I'm in! Oh and BTW although I didn't previously vote to help out, I'm up for being an area Rep. unless it's already spoken for.

Wow. I wouldn't care if we end up in a pasture in the mountains. I think the drive, the convoys of Crossfires, and the GTG with a national group having a picnic, would be well worth it. I've never been there and road trips are the bomb. I drove from Columbia, MD back to Brenham, TX and it was GREAT! Let me see if I can make this happen, I think it would be a great experience. We have 126 members here in Texas, but only a couple here...

I hope no one minds me coming in late with an idea about a destination. I have driven the super slabs across the midwest (could not eat corn for years afterwards) straight roads, frost heaved expansion joints, big trucks, slow campers, long straits with idiots in the left lane and cops on the over passes. A big yawn. Sorry just my observation. If you guys back east have never driven in the west, you should give it a try. The Black hills, Jackson hole, Yellowstone, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, The Grand Canyon, Highway 50 in Nevada (the loneliest road in America), I wouldn't mind a shot at the silver state challenge. Anywhere west of Rapid City, South Dakota out to the Pacific Ocean will blow you away. Take a run on the Salt Flats. Rent a Jeep in Moab, see the lodge at Old Faithful, Take your wife to dinner at (The Million Dollar Cowboy bar and steak house) in Jackson Hole. Do you know what a Hoodoo is? If this seems to far away from you, check into having your car shipped (it's not very expensive) and fly out to meet it somewhere that you would never see otherwise. You know your Crossfire has earned an exotic vacation out west. I have seen the Arch in St. Louis. "nice". Have you seen Arches Park?

Since we've narrowed it down to sometime in late June, 2010, I'll make contact with the folks at Mid America Motorplex outside of Omaha, NE and see what surfaces. As an alternative, I'm also going to contact Heartland Park in Topeka, KS. This is another fine road course and it wouldn't hurt for us to get costs from competing sites. I figure if we nail down the site along with the date, then the rest becomes a little easier to deal with. 2-3 months to finalize a site & associated track costs ought to give us time to arrange everything else.
As I learn more info, I'll pass along to this thread for others to comment.

1500 miles for me also.
Just made that drive and more (Frederick, SD) to meet my "real" dad after a bazillion years.
The drive sucked but seeing Dad after all of these years made the trip worth it.
Would I drive to see you "guys"?
HELL YEAH!
Count me in! Deb, I'll need a hug after all of that driving. Be there!
Franc, you have to fill in if Deb doesn't make it!
Now, do I drive the coupe or roadster???

Better we concentrate our efforts to persuade Deb it will be worth the drive. I suggest you shave, slick your hair a bit and put on the charm old man.
And if all fails and I have to hug you, take a bath too.
BTW, Roadster is the way to go to Omaha in June.
roadster with a stick.
the way it should be

Found this video of a driver's perspective running a couple of laps at Heartland Park Topeka. For those that have never been on a closed course, it will give you the sensation of what you'd see from the XFire's driver's seat.
