3rd annual FALL 2009 - Tail of the Dragon meet - Oct. 30, 31 - Nov. 1
re: 3rd annual FALL 2009 - Tail of the Dragon meet - Oct. 30, 31 - Nov. 1
I got home at 6:30 this evening after about an 11 hour trip home.
I first want to thank everyone who have posted their thanks to me here.
My efforts in planning this are rewarded by all of you that come to the GTG.
It's a good feeling to provide an opportunity for everyone to come together and have a nice time and meet one another and find out just how fun and safe our Crossfires really are.
I spend my time driving home just thinking of all the conversations I have had with so many terrific people some whom I see each year and others who I am happy to have just met.
You are all wonderful people and I hope you all will come back next spring or fall.
I logged a total of 1719 miles total for the entire trip.
421 miles were all driven over the weekend in the mountains over the 2 days of driving the loops.
That Sunday loop was a blast and driving the Cherohala skyway at dusk and into darkness was pretty cool to.
I will post photos as soon as I sort them all out and do my editing.
Thank you all for coming !!!
Gary

Several posts on folks that drove down Hwy 28 to Highlands/Cashiers area of NC. Here's some food for thought:
Attached is an alternate route to consider for one of next year's Dragon weekends. Takes group thru Western NC and Northern GA. As you can see by narrative included, roadways are great to drive and several points of interest along route. Hope to get our regional XFire group together on an upcoming weekend & drive this so we can get feasibility perspective for our semi-annual GTG's in Fontana. Only downside is route doesn't take us thru The Dragon. But it may not be an issue based on narrative.

Tom, Tom, Tom, you knew you were getting a ticket before we even left LOL and thanks for the compliment, every time I went back through, I was getting a little better and that thing was just plain old hooking up this weekend
Don't go telling all of our secrets now
Anytime Scott, I know I sure had a blast. Keep me posted on that burner and DVDs

James, thanks! That was a great run - very little interference from slow-pokes and we really got to tear it up. Don't tell John, but I couldn't shake him from my tail the whole time. Dammit! LOL
See everyone at the next event!

That is, until:
I saw your car - the debadging, rims, the whole effect. Your car better be the COVER for The Black Crossfires Calendar.

Thank you very much, sir . It is a different look, not for everyone, but I believe I have pulled it off nicely, and tastefully.
When I see a civic or some other ricer that tries the 'blackout' look and fails miserably - it ruines it for the rest of us, those of us with taste and style....

HWY 28 to Franklin is it's Twisted Sister and a hoot to run.
There is so much more than the Dragon to run and see during the weekend.
Including meeting friends old and new.

Deb & I made it back around midnight or so after logging 2122 miles. It was a fairly non-eventful drive though getting around Chi-town at rush hour was, as always, a special kind of treat . I'm convinced that I-94/294 is under a permanent state of construction. Apparently, generations of families have been working on the same project because the same stretch of highway has been torn up for the past 30 years or so! Only took 2 1/2 hours to get around!
Interestingly enough we spotted 4 (count 'em 4!) Xfires between Louisville & Indy not including one gray coupe we met at a gas/Subway stop in Berea, KY. This guy's wheels were so black & disgusting that I'd swear they had never been cleaned. While I was filling up the SRT he made some comments about how his Xfire couldn't stand up to his old Z3, performance wise & went on to complain about its resale value.
Not a member of this forum 'cause no one here would let their car get THAT dirty!
That's more Crossfire's on one stretch of I-65 than I see in a year (barring the Dragon!).
Anyways, even in spite of the rain all day Saturday, the event was a complete blast! It was great seeing familiar faces & meeting lots of new ones. As always, we didn't get a chance to hang with everyone - a shame.
Sunday's drive around the Smokies made this trip for us! I want to thank Franc for the suggested route (not to mention the bottle & the six-pack ) & the trip back through the dragon just as dusk started was outstanding!
Deb & I want to thank everyone for making this another awesome vacation!!
